Urfi Javed Talks About Being Trolled For Her Fashion Choices, Says She Gets Rape And Acid Attack Threats
A woman being shamed and judged for her choice of clothing is nothing new. Time and again, women have been questioned for their choices and even character assassinated for wearing certain clothes. Over the years, we’ve seen how the world is more concerned about women’s clothes than their fundamental rights. And celebs have it worse. They’re often judged harshly and even trolled for their clothes. The one celeb who is always in the news for her rather unique taste in fashion is Bigg Boss OTT fame Urfi Javed. Recently, the actress got into a social media war with designer Farah Khan Ali after the designer made derogatory comments about her fashion choices. Not only did Urfi Javed slam the designer for her comments but she also spoke up about the industry being biased and judging her on the basis of her clothes.

In an interview with ETimes TV, Urfi Javed opened up about being judged for her fashion choices and shared that designer Fara Khan Ali went on some paparazzi’s Instagram handle and began ‘slut-shaming’ her. “For no reason whatsoever would you do the same thing in a different way just because I sin differently that doesn’t mean you are less of a sinner. The moral policing is so weird,” said the actress. Speaking further, Urfi Javed pointed out that when someone from the entertainment industry commits suicide everyone comes together to talk about mental health but no one cares about anyone’s mental health when they’re alive. She further added that random people shaming her taste in fashion does not affect her but a known celebrity designer like Farah Khan Ali is unacceptable. She went on to say that someone who is wearing bikinis and posting on social media should not be making such comments while adding that hypocrisy bothers her.

Urfi Javed pointed out that Farah Khan Ali wrote that people are making fun of her and she should change but if people go by that logic then star kids like Suhana Khan and Nysa Devgn are also trolled for their skin colour so people should tell them to change their skin colour over it. She also said that Ananya Panday was trolled for an outfit she wore at a birthday party but no one asked her to change her clothes so why the hypocrisy with her, The actress added that if the designer was truly concerned about her she should’ve personally written to her instead of slut-shaming her in public. “You could have called me personally and told me how talented I am and my talent is going waste. Why didn’t you tell your relatives or producer friends to give me a movie and use my talent? She changed her narrative from slut-shaming to concern,” said the former Big Boss OTT contestant. She further added that her mother supports her and doesn’t have any problem with her dressing sense and Farah Khan Ali shouldn’t try to be her mother.

Discussing the recent incident where she was trolled for an incident with security guards, Urfi Javed clarified that they weren’t stopping her from entering the premises but were instead stopping the media and misbehaving with them. She shared that on that video too trolls were commenting on her clothes and saying that she should be raped and acid should be thrown on her because of her clothes. “By this logic, they are actually supporting rape culture, all this violence against women. Just because I wear clothes like these nasty things should happen to me,” said the actress. Speaking about the incident, the actress said that had she arrived at the location in a fancy car and with bouncers, the incident would not have happened.

Circling back to the Farah Khan Ali incident, Urfi Javed said that the term distasteful is subjective while adding that the designer has no idea how social media works and pointed out that trolls troll people. She also pointed out that people posting bikini pictures is ‘tasteful’ but if she wears what she wants it’s called distasteful and she is termed as a slut. She went on to add that Farah Khan Ali owes her a public apology for commenting on her clothes.

Urfi Javed further spoke about being judged in the entertainment industry on the bases of her clothes and said, “Industry is not ready to accept me at all. They are not ready to accept the change.” Recounting an incident where a casting director judged her, the actress shared that she was told that she won’t get work in the industry because she has a bad image due to her work. She revealed that the casting director suggested she try for adult web series as she won’t get good work. She shared that she is not comfortable with doing intimate scenes while adding that she is always offered work that includes bold and intimate scenes due to her choice of clothing. “I feel bad that mere kapdo se kyu Jod rahe ho mere acting ko…I feel like I am a decent actor and I need a chance. But don’t link these two things,” said the actress.

While we’re not a fan of Urfi Javed’s fashion choices, we do agree with her. No one has the right to judge her character or her acting skills based on her clothes. It’s a shame that even in 2022, women still have to face biases and get shamed for their personal choices.
