‘The Butcher Of Delhi’: Netflix’s New Indian True Crime Docu-Series Covers Some Shocking Crimes!

True crime is an interesting and mind-boggling genre as it has the ability to shock you to the core with details of surprising and heinous crimes that haunt the world’s criminal history as a whole. This grants us a deep perspective into the psyche of these criminals and helps you get closer to answering the ‘why’ behind these occurrences. It’s also always fascinating to get an inside scoop on the hard work that investigators and the police put into solving each crime. The sad part about this genre is the fact that it’s overtaken and ruled by American crime stories. Thankfully enough, Netflix decided to do something about this. Netflix’s previous Indian True Crime documentary, The House of Secrets covered the shocking story of the Burari House and the scary deaths that took place inside that house, leaving a lot of us wondering what lies ahead in the genre of Indian True Crime. This chapter in the new series The Indian Predator: The Butcher Of Delhi, which takes us closer to the baffling and gruesome crimes committed by the serial killer who caused panic all around our country’s capital.

This series directed by Ayesha Sood aims to capture the crimes of an unnamed serial killer and although they seem to have avoided mentioning this person’s name, it’s pretty clear that they are following the story and like of the famous serial killer Chandrakant Jha. He was a very sadistic man who killed his victims by torturing them, decapitating their heads and throwing out their dismembered body parts at various locations around Delhi. There was a massive chase that occurred in an attempt to capture him and he was finally, given the death penalty in 2013.

This indeed looks like a promising and chilling thriller that aims to take you on a journey into the mind of this scary man, like never before. In fact, the official tagline of the series read, “One city, one cold-blooded murderer and multiple horrifying crimes. Brace yourself for the most bone-chilling, blood-curdling true crime story you’ll ever see. Because this time, evil is closer than you thought it would be.”

The director of Indian Predator: The Butcher Of Delhi, Ayesha Sood has clearly put immense work and research into the series and it’s obvious from the trailer itself. The suspense created in the trailer leaves you at the edge of your seat when you hear details of crimes and witness the accounts of everyone that was involved in their investigation, that’s what sets this series apart- the interview angle which is very rare when it comes to such series. We also hear about the confident calls that this criminal dared to make to the departments- A big peek into his psyche indeed!

She also spoke about the non-fiction genre and space in India and how it’s finally growing which makes it the best time to release a piece like this. She further added the fact that she got to learn a lot about human psychology from this series and the investigation that led to the final arrest of this criminal. it teaches a lot about the crime-solving and judicial capabilities of Indian authorities. She looks forward to presenting a case that should have rocked the country with fear and left a big, red mark on the world but was missed simply due to hushed investigations and red-taping.
