Sriti Jha Clarifies That Her Viral Poem On Asexuality Is Not About Her

One of my most favourite events to attend are spoken fest events. I love the creativity and literary pieces that are shared there – they are inspiring to say the least. And at times when I can’t attend them, I make sure that I catch up by watching videos of the fest. It was then, when I came across the now-viral poem, Confessions of a romantic asexual’ by Sriti Jha. The poem that is written in first person had many wondering whether the poem was about the Kumkum Bhagya actor itself. But Sriti Jha put those questions to rest when she revealed that it wasn’t about her.

Sriti Jha who is famous for her playing many characters on-screen is currently the talk of the town not for her acting but rather for her performance at The Spoken Fest in Mumbai. After she performed her poem, Confessions of a romantic asexual, a lot of her fans were left wondering whether the poem was about the actor herself. However, that’s not the case.

Clearing up the doubts in an interview, Sriti Jha said, “I have written poems about the LGBTQ community and I understand that because it was written in first person, many felt it was about me. I have written a couple of more poems and that’s when a poet Daniyal told me that I may be taking the voice away from the people and their important stories by putting them in the first person. The poem comforted me in many ways because I have gone through a phase when I felt I wasn’t understood and felt the pressure of being cool like others. I think it was very cathartic to me but no, the poem is not about me”.

She further went on to say that even though writing the poem was “cathartic”, it wasn’t actually about her. In fact, when she was asked whether she lost out on dating prospects because of what people thought about her sexual orientation, Sriti Jha answered that she didn’t really loose any prospects and “if people are are so judgmental then it was good riddance.”

Sriti Jha who comes off as an intelligent person said that even though people perceive her as that she’s fickle minded and that shouldn’t intimidate anyone. She went on to say that there are a lot of interesting people out there and we should be approaching others as humans and not keep much expectations- cause at the end of the day all we need is someone with kindness and a sense of humour.
