‘Shabaash Mithu’ Trailer Is All About Mithali Raj’s Rise In A ‘Gentleman’s Game’ As She Establishes The Women’s Cricket Team’s Identity
If you are a cricket enthusiast, then you cannot miss the upcoming film Shabaash Mithu. This biographical sports drama is based on the life of the former ODI and Test match captain of the Indian women’s team, Mithali Raj. Taapsee Pannu essays the titular role of Mithali and the cast also includes Vijay Raaz. Shabaash Mithu is directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Viacom 18 Studios. The trailer of this highly-anticipated sports drama was dropped on June 20 and here’s what it is all about.
Shabaash Mithu Trailer Dropped
The trailer begins with Mithali aka Taapsee hitting each ball out of the boundary and the crowd chanting her name. In a flashback, she then recounts that she was eight years old when someone planted the dream of having a team of ‘women in blue’. Up ahead, Mithali’s talent is identified by the cricket coach (played by Vijay Raaz) who gets her enrolled in cricket school.
The trailer also highlights how the Indian women’s cricket team had to fight tooth and nail to establish their identity. From having given jerseys that did not have their names on them to overcoming all the struggles and establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the team, the trailer gives us a glimpse of it all! Towards the end, of the trailer, a journalist at a press conference asks Mithali Raj who her favourite male cricketer is, and the expression that she gives was one of the highlights for me. Also, I am excited to know what answer she must have given.
