Regé-Jean Page Just Called ‘Bridgerton’s Duke Simon Basset A “Regency-Era Fuckboy”. We Can’t Say We Disagree!

Ever since we’ve watched the Regency-era drama Bridgerton, we’ve all been thirsting over the Duke aka Simon Basset played by Regé-Jean Page and the Viscount aka Anthony Bridgerton played by Jonathan Bailey. Both the actors truly left us, girls, feeling hot, flushed and breathless with their portrayal of bad but good gentlemen! Though I couldn’t digest the misogyny of the Regency era, my ovaries did double, triple, quadruple takes over these two characters. Having said that, actor Regé-Jean Page recently spoke about his character in the series and he’s said something that all of us have been thinking about this entire time.

In a conversation with Variety during the premiere of his espionage action film The Gray Man, when Regé-Jean Page was asked if he’d watched season 2 of Bridgerton, the actor revealed that he hasn’t had the opportunity. Speaking about his role as Simon Basset in season 1 of Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page said that he wouldn’t have any problem if the production decides to recast his role moving forward. But the actor went on to add that he had a conversation with the executive producer of the show, Shona Rhimes, at the end of Season 1 and they spoke at length about his work. He said that they were happy with they “landed the ending” of the show.

Talking about Simon Basset, Regé-Jean Page said that they did so well with the “redemptive arc” that people seem to have forgotten how “horrific” Simon was. “He was the best example of a Regency fuckboy that any of us had come across,” the actor told Variety. The actor went on to conclude by saying that because they ended the show so well, they were all left feeling good about it. Well, we can’t say we disagree. Simon was quite a fuckboy and a douchebag for the majority of the show.
