‘Sex Education’ Actor Ncuti Gatwa Becomes First Black Actor To Play ‘Doctor Who’. Emma Mackey, Asa Butterfield, Simu Liu, And More React
To be very honest, I love the Netflix series Sex Education and my favourite character is definitely Eric Effiong played by Ncuti Gatwa. And I was ecstatic when I heard that he will be portraying the role of Time Lord in the upcoming season of Doctor Who. For the unversed, he’s the first male black actor to play the iconic role of the doctor in the popular series. Our Eric is ruling the world and how!

Recently, BBC announced that Ncuti Gatwa is all set to star in the upcoming season of the iconic BBC show Doctor Who. The 29-year-old is all set to become the 14th Doctor of this popular sci-fi series which will release next year, as per reports. He is going to replace Jodie Whittaker, who also made history after becoming the first female Doctor. FYI, Gatwa is not the first black Doctor, in 2020, actress Jo Martin played a variation of the role in a few episodes.

I feel so happy that a lot of black Doctor Who fans or general viewers feel seen/represented by Ncuti Gatwa playing the iconic Time-Lord.
The beauty of the show is escapist fun but also being represented.

Ncuti Gatwa, a Rwandan refugee welcomed by Scotland, graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, BAFTA nominee, gay and black, is the new Doctor Who. Brilliant! Well done, the casting team!

As we all know Ncuti Gatwa is a fantastic actor and I hope he says, “Get in the TARDIS you detty pigs,” in his thick British accent.
