Birthdays have always excited me since I was a child. It didn’t matter whose birthday it was, you’d always find me jumping up and down with excitement and singing the loudest. And that excitement has not gone away yet. My birthday is almost a month away and I have already started annoying people around me asking them what they were gifting me or what surprise they had in store for me. Let’s face it, a surprise birthday gift/party makes the birthday 1000 times better. But since there is still time for my birthday, the fans of cricket got their surprise on Mithali Raj, the Indian women’s cricket team captain’s birthday. What am I talking about? Well, the makers of Shabaash Mithu which is a biopic of Mithali Raj starring Taapsee Pannu announced their release date. On her birthday! Isn’t that a wonderful birthday surprise?
In the past, we’ve seen cricket and cinema combine to create evergreen magic on screen and this time it is no different. The studio that is behind National Award-winning sports biopics is back with their latest project – Shabaash Mithu. The film starring Taapsee Pannu and Vijay Raaz is set to revolve around the captain of Team India Women’s ODI, Mithali Raj.

In the film, Taapsee Pannu plays Mithali Raj, the captain that led the Indian women’s team to the women’s World Cup finals in the year 2017. The film that tells the story of Mithali’s life and career is set to release on February 4th, 2022. Mithali shared the release date announcement on her Instagram account and thanked everyone involved for the birthday surprise.

Shabaash Mithu will track the life of the Indian woman cricketer that has the highest runs in women’s international cricket yet. The film will cover all the highs, lows, and setbacks that Mithali Raj faced in her journey of becoming a cricketer.

The movie, Shabaash Mithu, starring Taapsee Panu and Vijay Raaz is written by Priya Aven, directed by Srijit Mukherji, and produced by Viacom18 Studios. Shabaash Mithu has been shot at various international and domestic locations to keep the authenticity of the story alive.
With so many of the movies releasing in the first half of the year 2022, this is the movie that I’m eagerly waiting to watch. I mean, having Taapsee Pannu playing the famous Mithali Raj, is going to be something else, something magical.
