Mira Rajput Praises Vidya Balan, Shefali Shah For Calling Out Casual Sexism And Lack Of Respect For Women’s Jobs

Everyday sexism is extremely common in our lives and we’ve all reached point where we just accept it instead of constantly fighting it. And I honestly believe that we all need to pick and choose our battles instead of trying to fight every single one of them. IMHO, fighting bigger battles first is a step towards resolving smaller issues, not that I’m trivialising the other issues. If I were to ask you, who does your house help ask about what has to be made for dinner or lunch, your most obvious answer would be the woman of the house, hai na? This may seem like a small thing but it is deeply rooted in sexism. Recently, a video of Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah speaking about the everyday sexism that they face at home in an interview during the promotion of their film Jalsa has been doing rounds on social media. This video was shared by The Quint in March this year. And now, Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput has hailed the actresses for expressing their views and highlighting the everyday sexism and double standards that women face.

Sharing the video on her Instagram story, Mira Rajput expressed her opinion on the issue. In a long caption, Mira pointed out that equality starts at and extends at home. She went on to say that a woman’s work also deserves respect while adding that one shouldn’t be ready to be interrupted during their work call if they interrupt a woman during hers.

Check out her story.

In the viral video snippet from the interview shared by the news portal, Vidya Balan can be heard pointing out that their house help does not mind interrupting her when she’s on a call but that’s not the case with her husband. She went on to add that according to her this is because they take it seriously when a man is working and they don’t take a woman’s work seriously.

Much in line with the same, Shefali Shah can also be heard recalling an incident from when she was attending a screening of her series Delhi Crime at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Recounting the incident the actress shared that her son was repeatedly calling her during the screening and cut the call and texted him saying that she’s in the middle of her first screening showcasing of her series and he responded by asking her to send him the “OTP” which left her flabbergasted.

Well, we totally get what our celebs are pointing out. They do have a solid point. Even in 2022, a woman’s work isn’t taken seriously and the statistics have proved it repeatedly. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the stats showed that women had to face double burden and felt burnt out due to the juggling between their office work as well as the household chores during the lockdown when they were working from home. And even after getting the conversation going around this, nothing has really changed for women across the nation. Even today, women continue to be burdened with unpaid labour that they do at home. The fact remains that no matter what position a woman reaches professionally, she is always expected to take care of the household chores. When will gender roles really come to an end?
