With ‘Ironheart’, MCU Gets Its First Transgender And Non Binary Actors In Zoe Terakes And Shea Couleé

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the only thing that I can say I follow religiously. I may be behind on keeping up with the content that they are coming up with but I am almost always well-versed with the news around it. And so, if I can’t tell you anything about the content, let me tell you about the news part. MCU has always tried and attempted to be as inclusive as they can with regards to their cast and representation. This time is no different. Marvel is all set to cast Disney+’s first ever transgender actor in next year’s Ironheart!

Marvel has always been told to do better and they have tried their best to break ground when it comes to representation – whether it was in Ms Marvel or next year’s Ironheart. Yep, MCU is gearing up for Shea Couleé and Zoe Terakes to join Ironheart.

Alongside Dominique Thorne, Shea Couleé is also set to join the already very diverse cast of Ironheart. Shea Couleé is the first non-binary actor to appear in the MCU franchise. This just means that Marvel broke yet another boundary when it comes to representation and inclusion.

But if you think Marvel stopped with that, think again. Zoe Terakes is another actor in cue to join the diverse cast of Ironheart and claim a spot in the MCU. The transgender and non-binary actor is set to play a key role in the upcoming series, however, no specific details about their character has been revealed.

Sharing the news of being the first transgender actor to appear in the MCU’s Ironheart, Zoe Terakes wrote on Twitter, “unbelievably stoked. this one’s for the trans guys n girls n theys ( four heart emojis) so much love. @marvelstudios”

Marvel Cinematic Universe knows the importance of representation and inclusion. And in the past few years, they’ve been trying their best to reflect a world that is united in its diversity and that reflects the real world more than ever.
