Mallika Sherawat Says What Deepika Did In ‘Gehraiyaan’, She Did 15 Years Ago, But Was Judged For It

Mallika Sherawat has been missing from the screen for a long time now. But she’s never missing from the scene, is she? Ahead of the release of her upcoming film, RK/RKay alongside Kubra Sait, Rahul Bose, Ranvir Shorey, and Manu Rishi Chadha, Mallika Sherawat made a statement that has hit the headlines. In a conversation with Prabhat Khabar, Mallika Sherawat shared that things have changed for the better for the actresses in the industry. She said that earlier the actresses could only play two kinds of characters which is either a “sati-savitri type” who was too innocent to know anything or a “characterless vamp”. She went on to add those were the only two type of roles written for actresses but now things have changed as women are shown as humans and be happy or sad and make mistakes.

Speaking further, Mallika spoke about her 2004 film Murder and said that while today actresses are more confident about their bodies back in the day when she did Murder there was “such hue and cry” and all kinds of things were said about her on-screen kiss and bikini. “What Deepika Padukone did in Gehraaiyaan, I did that 15 years ago, but people were too narrow-minded back then,” she told Prabhat Khabar. She went on to reveal that back then a section of the industry and media was “mentally torturing” her. She further added that even though she did great films like Dashavataram, Pyaar Ke Side Effects and Welcome, no one talked about her acting skills and people only talked about her body and glamour. Well, where is the lie? Back in the day kissing on-screen was a big thing and actresses were judged for the roles they picked and also typecast. But TBH, we wouldn’t go as far as comparing Murder and Gehraaiyan. Those are two completely different films.
