‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ Song “Laal Tamatar” Featuring Late Rishi Kapoor Has Us Feeling Emotional

It’s so hard for all of us to accept and make peace with things when we lose a star. 2020 was a dark year for all of us considering that the pandemic started in India that year but it was also a bad time for the entertainment industry in India as we lost veteran actor Rishi Kapoor that year. But the good news is that his last film, Sharmaji Namkeen will hit our screens on March 31, 2022. It will be available to stream on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. On Thursday, the latest track from the Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal starrer titled ‘Laal Tamatar’ was released and this flavoursome song has brought tears to our eyes.

Take a look at this beautiful song that was released on Youtube earlier today.

This quirky song nearly made us forget that Rishi Kapoor is no more. If you’ve already watched this video, I’m sure it took you through a plethora of flavours and emotions at the same time. Produced by Sneha Khanwalkar and penned by Gopal Dutt, ‘Laal Tamatar’ from Sharmaji Namkeen was sung by Kanika Kapoor. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia and produced by Excel Entertainment in association with Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey from MacGuffin Pictures, this movie revolves around BG Sharma ji who harbour a passion for cooking. The song shows Rishi Kapoor enjoying cooking and making what seems like lip-smacking food items at parties as he tries to navigate through his 60s as a retired man. Following his death, Paresh Rawal replaced Rishi Kapoor in the film and played the role of Sharmaji. Parts of the song, show Paresh Rawal playing the part as he continues cooking for women at kitty parties.

TBH, we weren’t the only ones feeling emotional after watching this music video. Several fans couldn’t help but remember late actor Rishi Kapoor.

In a conversation with The Indian Express, the director of the Sharmaji Namkeen Hitesh Bhatia opened up about roping in Paresh Rawal to replace Rishi Kapoor in the film while keeping the essence of the film alive as it was the veteran actor’s last film. Speaking about shooting the last scene with Rishi Kapoor, Hitesh shared that it was the kulfi scene and he was happy with the first shot but Rishi Kapoor insisted on a close-up shot. “Chintu ji, who never insists, wanted me to take the close-up as he believed it will add to the scene. The light was going badly. So, he asked the DOP to make the close-up happen no matter what. And eventually, we did the shot, not knowing it will become the last shot of his life,” said the director while recalling the late actor. He also shared that they initially thought about roping in Ranbir Kapoor to wear prosthetics and reprise the role played by his late father but later on they locked in Paresh Rawal.

This movie is truly going to be special as it’s the first one of its kind. No other film has ever been completed with another actor replacing the lead following his or her death in the past. We’re just thankful to the director for changing the trend and choosing to complete the film and taking the risk. We’re glad to have a chance to see Rishi Kapoor on our screen once again.
