Kriti Sanon Says She Was Asked To Line Her Lips And Make Her Waist Smaller. Body Shaming In Bollywood Is Far From Over!

We’re all aware of the constant scrutiny women are under, not only in the public eye but also for their professional life. Also, I believe in the last 2 years, we have all been made aware of the struggles that newcomers face in Bollywood. Usually, newcomers are overshone by star kids who have an easier time getting auditions as compared to outsiders. In a recent interview, Kriti Sanon opened up about her struggles in the film industry as a woman and an outsider and they’re genuinely heartbreaking!

As an outsider, Kriti opened up about her struggles with being an outsider in the film industry. She talked about her moments of insecurities and vulnerability where she would wonder if anything will ever happen for her. She said that she would get really upset because she would go for auditions and not get selected at times. Kriti also spoke about her “low days.” She said that some days she would call her mother 10 times and somedays she would have a breakdown. Moreover, there would be days where she wouldn’t get an audition for days. Kriti advised, I feel like everyone’s journey is different. There could have been a point where actually I would have not got a Heropanti, maybe that opportunity would have not been there, then what. Maybe I would have gone with something else which was feeling like the best option. So I feel like you have to decide how much to wait.”

Kriti Sanon discussed all the body-shaming and uninvited comments she has had to endure because she is an outsider and a woman in Bollywood. From being told to line her lips to make them look fuller to being criticised regarding her smile, Kriti has dealt with it all. Kriti stated that people have told her that she has a “gummy smile.” She has also been told to get her waist to be thinner. However, she does agree that one cannot listen to everyone and has to hold their own.

Kriti said, There had been times when I was told to line my lips to look fuller. It didn’t make sense to me. I did try it once. I was also told that my nostrils flare up a little bit when I smile. So, yes there will be criticism from everywhere. When I smile or laugh, sometimes they do but that’s normal na? I am not a plastic doll.” She further added, that she, “just never felt the need to change anything.”

Honestly, with the amount of scrutiny that goes on against women and newcomers in the industry, I am proud of Kriti Sanon for taking a stand and staying true to herself. But then, why was she subjected to this in the first place? Why is it so hard for women to simply thrive without all the scrutiny around their appearance? As if we aren’t humans but mounds of clay meant to be moulded however they please. Can we at least try to look past the superficiality and commend people for their skills rather than just appearances? Moreover, stop discouraging people from being humans and looking like them!
