J.K. Rowling Got Pranked By Russians Impersonating Ukraine President Zelensky On Zoom Call

If you ask anyone about me, they’d tell you I’m a notorious prankster. I like pranking people but I also do understand limits and make sure that it doesn’t scar people for life. But not all can be me – especially the Russians. What prank did Russians play? Well, they impersonated Ukraine President Zelensky on a Zoom call with J.K. Rowling. This “distasteful” prank took place while the author was trying to help children in Ukraine. There were two Russians who pranked the Harry Potter author and left her angry as well as embarrassed.

J.K. Rowling became a victim of a hoax by two Russian pranksters who tricked the author into believing that she was actually on a Zoom call with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. The duo was none other than Vovan and Lexus, who is infamous for prank-calling celebrities.

The video of the Zoom call that went viral early Tuesday morning was shared by The Rowling Library. In the video, J.K. Rowling is being fooled by Russian comedy outfit Vivan and Lexus who in their past have made Prince Harry, Billie Eilish, George W. Bush, Kamala Harris, Elton John, and Bernie Sanders – their victims.

A spokesperson of the author called the prank “distasteful” and said, “J.K. Rowling was approached to talk about her extensive charitable work in Ukraine, supporting children and families who have been affected by the current conflict in the region. The video, which has been edited, is a distorted representation of the conversation.”

In the 12-minute long video, the Russian pranksters comment on Harry Potter’s lightning bolt forehead scar and said that it looks like a ‘Z’ that the Russian military has put on its tanks while invading Ukraine. They even told J.K. Rowling that it has become a symbol of support for the war among the Russians.

In fact, when J.K. Rowling was asked if she would change the symbol to a Ukrainian trident, she said, “I will look into that… It might be good for me to do something with that myself on social media because I think that will get into the newspapers.”

The duo further asked Rowling if Dumbledore was really gay and asked who he slept with, and also told her that they hoped that it was not with a transgender. They even told her that the Ukrainians were writing “Avada Kedavra” – the killing curse in Harry Potter – on their missiles.

The Russian duo who were pranking J.K. Rowling by impersonating the Ukraine President ensured that it was an audio-only call. They did later turn on their webcam where they were seen wearing T-shirts that read “Only Putin” in Russian.
