Who’s Indian television’s most subdued bahu? IMHO, it’s Gopi bahu from Saath Nibhana Saathiya. I mean we’ve all seen how her mother in late grooms her and moulds her according to her preference and convenience. This character of a submissive bahu played by Gia Manek gained popularity after a video of her washing her husband’s laptop went viral and was turned into memes. She then goes on to ask them to pay her back for her work and for her love for them and stood up for her rights. 1. When you first took up the role of Gopi Bahu in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, what were your thoughts about portraying this simple innocent and rather naive woman?
Gia Manek: I felt grateful for the opportunity. I just wanted to throw myself into work and give my 100% to it. I had no other thoughts.
2. When you took up this role in Saath Nibhana Saathiya’s spin-off Tera Mera Saath Rahe, did you know that your character would eventually turn into a feminist who stands up for her rights?
Gia Manek: I was given a gist of how the character will shape up. I knew that Gopi will go from being a naive woman to a powerful woman.
3. The latest clip of your character Gopika bahu standing up for her rights in front of the family is trending on social media and it’s being loved. How does it feel to be trending once again for this iconic character?
Gia Manek: I feel truly blessed and grateful.
4. Are we going to see more of such unexpected things coming from Gopika bahu? While she continues being a feminist or will we see a switch once again?
Gia Manek: Well, you’ll just have to wait and watch!
5. How did you feel when the clip of you washing a laptop from Saath Nibhana Saathiya went viral?
Gia Manek: I was really taken aback. I did not expect that the clip from the video would go viral at all. It came as a surprise.
