Fawad Khan Opened Up About Missing Bollywood, His New Show And Objectification. We Miss You Too, Fawad!

Probably the first time after his last big project Ae Dil Hai Mushkil we managed to get our eyes on a good thirty-minute-long clip with actor Fawad Khan in it. In a recent interview with Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra, the popular actor serves answers to many anticipated queries, one of which is his farewell from Bollywood. Known for his work in the hindi film industry with films like Kapoor And Sons and Khoobsurat, the actor will next be seen in an untitled project with  Zindagi Gulzar Hai co-star Sanam Saeed that deals with fantasy and magic realism, and will mark his comeback on the Indian screens. Followed by a big gap between his past and current projects, he shared his take on the blooming insecurities as he mentioned, “as you grow older some people become more insecure and some start letting go of those insecurities. I think I’m the latter. I’ve never been too worried about how much I’m doing as opposed to what I’m doing. You don’t have to be number one to enjoy life.”

The actor has been keeping busy shooting for his upcoming projects like The Legend of Maula Jatt, Money Back Guarantee, his own production Neelofar alongside Mahira Khan and the much-awaited Ms Marvel, for Disney + TV.

Post the sudden ban on Pakistani actors working in India, there has been a shift in dialogue keeping the artists across the border limited just to our Instagram screens. Opening up about his experience in Bollywood and Mumbai, the actor shared, “I miss Bollywood. I made some great friends there and still keep in touch with them. I miss Bombay, I think it’s a beautiful city. I made a family on the sets of Kapoor And Sons. In fact, in every city I’ve been to, I’ve had a lovely experience. I would love artists across the globe to collaborate and work together. It is an educational experience. It increases your exposure and understanding of people from different parts of the world. It fosters friendships, relationships and the things that we look for – more peaceful times” (and we too would love to have you back here).

Furthermore, he shared his world view about the muslim representation in films, “I don’t feel that it is our job or position to preach philosophy or morality to our audiences, to tell them to change their point of view and make it more in alignment to our views. You can tell a story and an experience, and if the audience takes something back with them, that’s another thing. But otherwise, when something starts turning into propaganda then propaganda is always dirty. Whatever I choose, it should steer far away from very visibly trying to form an opinion in the viewers’ mind. That makes me jittery and I don’t even like watching work that gives that impression.”

Talking about ‘The Next Big Story’which is his initiative to offer a platform to budding writers and churn out the best narratives, Fawad Khan said, “I’ve always felt that there is a dearth of fresh content. Everyone wants to be an actor or a director but very rarely do you want to be a writer, a DoP or any cog in the wheel that makes it go round. That trend is changing now. There’s a need for content as well as a need to nurture writers.”

“Living in the kind of limitations that we do, enhances our ability to cope with situations, which we call jugaads. Between India and Pakistan, this could be a great trade of talent – learning the technology and exchanging ideas could be a great thing.”- he further added.

Bearing the brunt of being a pretty face (at times), the actor unveiled his take on being objectified and the process of getting roles, “I think at some level, everyone likes being objectified as long as it doesn’t cross a very thin line and becomes offensive. And if I lost a role, that’s because I wasn’t good enough for it, not because I was too pretty for it. There have been many more beautiful faces in the world, and they land all the roles that they want to. I never felt like that, at least.”

Married to his childhood sweetheart Sadaf Khan who is a celebrated bridal wear designer in Pakistan, Fawad Khan shared his idea of nurturing a healthy relationship, “I think we have been very patient with one another. We do get into arguments, we have been through very difficult times but we’ve kinda powered through. And I think more than a husband and wife because we’ve known each other since our teens, we’ve also grown together as friends, in some ways which is kinda unhealthy, but there is a lot of love that goes around in our house. All of which has contributed to this relationship largely” (awwww).

Reminiscing his experience in India, he shared a special message for Pakistani and Indian fans amidst the current political turbulence and its effect on art and films, “I have spent time in India, and in whatever limited way, I travelled to different cities and all I received was love. I never felt any anger towards me and probably the hatred is only like chai ki jhilli [a thin layer over tea] while the rest is all love. We don’t see the good part because of that cover on top. I have seen this interest, this intrigue in Pakistan as well in India about what must be happening on the other side, in a very cute, inquisitive way, and have heard some amazing stories. Everyone makes connections and people are quite easy” (we too hope so, come back Fawad Please!)
