Esha Gupta Opens Up About Leaving A Set After A Director Verbally Abused Her. And Rightly So!
Having been a working woman for several years, I can definitely say that there are moments in the workplace where you just lose it. The frustration, the stress, the pressure, etc. just gets so much that you can’t help but get angry or agitated. And it’s fine to feel like that, as long as you don’t remove that anger/agitation on someone else. I mean, it is not fair to them, right?. Turns out, this kind of behaviour is quite common on film shoots. But where certain actresses keep quiet and take it because, well, he could be a director or a producer or someone who might hurt their career if they called them out, there are many who refuse to accept this kind of behaviour (and rightly so). Actor Esha Gupta who recently opened up about storming off a set after a director verbally abused her and refused to get back until he apologized.
Esha Gupta, in an interview, said that she is not the kind of person who would take abuse lying down. She revealed that there was an incident where a director abused her and she abused him back. The actress also stated that she had walked off the set and refused to return until he apologized, which was two days later.
The Bollywood actress said that there was some issue with her costume and because of some kind of miscommunication, this was not conveyed to the director of the shoot. So when she reached the set, the director abused her thinking that she was late for the shoot. Esha Gupta said, “He just said something in Hindi and I looked at him, and he is like, ‘You are late.’ I was very calm even then because generally, I am calm. I am like, ‘But I wasn’t late. I have been here before all of you, I was here before the shoot time. The outfit had an issue because it was a change, it’s not my fault.’ And he abused me again. That’s it, that was enough for me. The first abuse, I was still okay, it’s very Delhi lingo also.”

According to Hindustan Times, Esha remained silent the first time the director abused her but later on snapped at him when he repeated it. Gupta added, “But the second time he said it, I told him the same thing back, what he said to me. I said, ‘You know what? You are this. Don’t ever talk to me like that or disrespect me.’ I literally said that I walked out from there.”
The actress said that she just removed the rollers from her hair and left in the same outfit. No sooner did she leave, than the producers and executive producer called her to apologize. But Esha Gupta wanted the director to apologize, which he did two days later, and only then did she go back to the shoot.

Honestly, I actually like what she did. I know that it was a miscommunication which is why she was quiet the first time the director abused her but when he repeated it, it was definitely not okay. I agree with Esha Gupta’s stand of walking out of the shoot and not accepting such behaviour. Women from all around the world in any industry should not subject themselves to such abusive behaviour. Take a stand for yourself and demand the respect that you deserve.
