Choreographer Ganesh Acharya Charged With Sexual Harassment, Voyeursim And Stalking, Chargesheet Filed In Andheri Court.
Celebs being accused of sexual harassment is nothing new to us, especially after the #MeToo movement. Over the years, we’ve heard big industry names being accused of molestation and harassment but we haven’t seen much being done to obtain justice. In 2020, a woman had accused ace choreographer Ganesh Acharya of sexual harassment, stalking and voyeurism and now, two years later, a chargesheet has finally been filed in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Andheri.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Ganesh Acharya and his assistant have been charged under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354C (voyeurism), 354D (stalking), 509 (insulting the modesty of any woman), 323 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention to commit an offence) of the Indian Penal Code. The case is being handled by the Oshiwara Police station.

When contacted by the news portal, choreographer Ganesh Acharya refused to comment on the matter but his advocate Ravi Suryavanshi told Hindustan Times that they have not received any information about the chargesheet from the police. The lawyer further added that he does not have the chargesheet so he cannot comment on it but according to the FIR all sections were bailable.
In 2020, one of Ganesh Acharya’s co-dancer had filed a police complaint against the choreographer accusing him of molesting her, passing lewd comments and even showing her porn. She had claimed that this happened after she turned down his sexual advances. In a conversation with Hindustan Times earlier, the woman had alleged that Ganesh Acharya had asked her to have sex with him in order to have a successful career in the entertainment industry but she refused. Six months after this incident, her membership at the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association was terminated.

The woman had also accused Ganesh Acharya’s assistants of assaulting her after which she filed a police complaint but only a non-cognisable case was lodged. She then contacted a lawyer to take the case further, the woman told the news portal.
