Babil Says His ‘Baba’ Irrfan Khan Was What He Was Because Of His Mother’s Sacrifices
Back in April of 2022, Indian cinema lost one of its shiniest gems – Irrfan Khan. The actor left a void that is very hard to fill. Remembering him in his death month, Irrfan Khan’s son Babil speaks about the driving force behind his father’s success. According to Babil, Sutapa Sikdar, his mother, made a tonne of sacrifices so as to support the late actor’s career. He also revealed that his mom made a large, silent contribution to the Hindi Medium actor’s career.

Babil just had his first interview with a leading magazine wherein he spoke about his ‘baba’ Irrfan Khan and the legacy that he has left behind. He revealed that the late actor could only become the man he was because his mother, Sutapa Sikdar, sacrificed her own career to support him.

Babil said, “She sacrificed her career to raise us and make sure Baba’s work continued uninterrupted. And let me tell you, she’s a very ambitious woman. It takes a lot to put your ambitions aside for your partner, for your children. It must’ve killed her to do it and yet she did. Baba was Baba because Mumma was Mumma. He’d be nothing without her. And I don’t think she gets enough credit. Not even from Baba. It was only after his sickness that he acknowledged the scale of her contribution towards his success.”

I genuinely love the fact that he doesn’t disregard his dad’s efforts but ensures that people know who was the woman behind his father’s success. It really feels refreshing to hear a man talk about the sacrifices a woman goes through (almost every woman) for either her family, spouse, or society. And it is true that no one ever asks about those behind the scenes and so much of their contribution goes unnoticed.
