Like every other Potterhead out there, I was dying to get my hands on a copy of the latest book. While several of my friends were reading their copies on a Kindle, I was ready to wait for the real thing — the official hardbound book. Yeah, I’m not big on e-books! Harry Potter And The Cursed Child finally arrived two days ago, and I settled down to know what the story would be, nineteen years later.

Before I begin, SPOILER ALERT: if you haven’t read the book yet, stop right here. But if you don’t mind knowing a thing or two about the plot before you read the book, scroll on!

So yes, I was thrilled to read all about Harry, Ron, Hermione and their children. It put a smile on my face as I read about the Trolley Witch, the delicious Pumpkin Pasties and the moving staircases. It took me back to the good ol’ days and I wished I could go back and discover the wonderful world of Harry Potter all over again. In a nutshell, the story revolves around Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy as they try to go back in time to save Cedric Diggory. Remember Hermione’s Time-Turner that helped her get through so many classes in her third year? Well, the boys make use of a similar device to travel back in time.

But, at the cost of sounding like Dumbledore, time is not a frivolous thing to be meddled with! Albus and Scorpius, along with their parents (and Ron and Hermione, of course!) discover this, in a not-so-pleasant manner. Um… well, that’s it! That’s what the plot revolves around. And yes, that was how I felt too, when I realized that I had flipped to the last page and it was over. All in all, it was a pretty disappointing read. I mean, we are all used to Rowling’s style of writing right? But this one (which is actually a script) had me feeling like I was reading fan-fiction.

Okay, I absolutely loved reading about the trio again and the friendship that blossomed between Albus and Scorpius was a wonderful take. But I also felt that Ron’s character was poorly fleshed out, while Draco Malfoy was painted as having turned over a new leaf, which is a tad unbelievable, if you ask me! For the first time in a long time, I truly believe that the play would probably be better than the book!

But then again, who can say no to a fresh new story about Harry Potter? So folks, if you’d ask me to read another book/script or even a measly little paragraph about Harry Potter and Hogwarts, all I’d say is ‘hell yeah’!
