Love and marriage are the two most-talked-about topics in Indian society. A conversation that has every rishtedar attentive, the idea of marrying, or let alone dating a non-desi can bring with it a bag of issues. From the cultural differences, and traditional barriers to families disapproving of your decision, marrying a non-Indian, or someone from a different culture remains a hot topic. Discussing what, Twitter pariwaar has assembled on the internet to list down the many reasons that will discourage you to find a partner abroad.
According to this new trend, every desi has a unique issue to point out the problems with a cross-cultural marriage, and it sure is relatable. Taking to Twitter, a user named–Asmi wrote, “Can’t marry outside my culture cause how am I supposed to explain that we use the same word for yesterday and tomorrow.” Reacting to this someone said, “don’t forget tarso.”
Besides the barrier created by language, the many Indian rituals at a wedding can also be a cause of distress. I mean, who will explain it to non-desis? Pointing what, a few Twitter users said, “I can’t marry outside my culture cos how do I explain there’s going to be 600 wedding guests.” One user also pointed at the ritual of “joota chhupaai” and said, “Can’t marry outside my culture cause how ima explain to him that my cousins & friends gonna steal ur shoes after.”
Some of the Twitter users also talked about relatable, and funny observations. While some wrote, “I can’t marry outside my culture as I don’t want to miss out on the 5-6 functions,” some others mentioned, “Can’t marry outside of my culture because how do I explain that yes no and maybe are all the same word.” Take a look at some of these reactions.
