Priyanka Chopra has always been a trendsetter, be it fashion or films, and it shows through her remarkable journey in the industry. Today, she is celebrating her 2 year anniversary with husband Nick Jonas (boy, time flies) and we found ourselves looking at the pictures of her wedding that was no less than a new-age fairytale. And while we reached for the tissues, we realised that she, knowingly or unknowingly, started some major bridal fashion trends even at her wedding. The fashionista wasn’t off duty even as a bride, in fact, set the hottest fashion trends that brides are emulating even today.

This day, two years ago, Priyanka Chopra made for a stunning bride twice, first as a traditional Indian dulhan clad in Sabyasachi lehenga and later in a Ralph Lauren wedding gown for her Christian wedding. However, it was not just the wedding looks that she redefined the bridal trends with. For her pre- and post-nuptial ceremonies too, she chose unconventional looks featuring offbeat colour schemes and unique style combination that became the fashion inspiration for brides-to-be everywhere.

Green was the strict and presumed dress code for mehendi ceremony, not just for the bride but all the attendees as well. That was the rule, am I right? That was until Priyanka donned a lehenga that was a colour riot of bright neons and had a heady mix of aesthetic patterns! Multihued lehengas picked up as one of the biggest bridal fashion trends post 2018, and can you blame the brides for copying her style? It looked so gorgeous as she twirled in that skirt; it left us gushing over the colourful outfit.

The all-red lehenga

No one can really forget her all-red Sabyasachi lehenga that she wore for her Hindu wedding ceremony. It literally broke the internet for all the right reasons. You see, that was the time when pastel colours were huge in bridal wear and honestly, we were expecting Priyanka to walk down those stairs of Umaid Bhawan Palace in a pastel lehenga, only to be pleasantly surprised by her vermillion coloured, exquisitely embroidered lehenga. And that was it; being dressed head-to-toe in red was the shiz.

The long veil

How can we not talk about her red wedding lehenga and not talk about the gorgeous lengthy veil that she sported just like every coy Indian bride used to in the yesteryear? Brides had given up on the veils, TBH until it was brought back in the scene by Priyanka. Her bridal pictures looked heavenly, and that was enough to make brides-to-be opt for this extensive, sheer face covering on their weddings too. If you are racking your brains thinking who wore the style very recently, it was Neha Kakkar.

And the extra-long train

For her western wedding ceremony, she looked like a modern-day princess in a white embellished gown designed by American designer Ralph Lauren. It was the 75-foot-long tulle train of the veil spread behind the bride as she walked down the aisle that really caught our eye. Although it also became a fodder for memes, all in good humour, the OTT train became the most sought-after fashion element for the Christian brides everywhere.

The fusion bride

No, it isn’t that she is wearing a Christian Dior gown with the chooda, or that it comes with an embroidered dupatta or that she has teamed the western outfit with a maang tikka, it is all of these style combinations that are making this look a fusion dream for brides who don’t want to stick to traditional attires. Priyanka wore this very contemporary bridal outfit with traditional accessories for a post-wedding function and made a strong case for fashion fusion for brides. In other words, she laid down a 101 on how to blend ethnic with modern for all the millennial brides out there.
