5 Powerful Bedtime Stories That Will Give Young Girls Wings To Imagine, Achieve, And Dream

All it takes is one story. One story to change the way you see the world. One story to change the way you see yourself. One story that can either make you or break you. And so choosing and reading the right kind of story is extremely important – especially when you’re just starting out and giving reading a chance. I personally believe that when a young girl reads a story that portrays a strong female character or shows a realistic female character that is relatable, it can be life-changing and inspiring. And so, I think it is time to put the damsel in distress stories to rest and look at some really inspiring bedtime stories that have so much more spunk and grit.
Fret not, you don’t have to go looking for these inspiring bedtime stories, cause I have a list ready. You love me or do you love me? Well, thank me later after you read the list I have. Check it out:
1. Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls series – Elena Ravioli and Francesca Cavallo
What I love about the Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls series is the fact that it is ever-expanding and that means more stories about courageous women (from the past and present) and how their revolutionary ideas changed the world and contributed so much to our development. And the cherry on top is the fact that the women in these books come from different countries, and backgrounds, and have different interests and accomplishments.

2. Matilda – Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl’s Matilda is one of my personal favourite bedtime stories. It is one of the most underrated books that I believe you can read at any point in your life. The book is about a girl that is misunderstood and ignored, who jumps into the world of books and eventually develops telekineses. She uses this power to stand up to bullies in general and helps those who need help. It is a book that will inspire your young girl(s) to pursue their dreams even when they think it is useless to hope. And it also will make them believe that they are strong as a woman and don’t need anyone to stand up for them – they are enough.
3. The Name Jar – Yangsook Choi
One of my other favourite bedtime stories of all time is The Name Jar revolves around the life of Unhei, a new kid in school, who believes that because of her non-American name she won’t be able to make friends. Yangsook Choi’s book will help give your young girl(s) a sense of appreciation for what she perceives as her flaw – then may it be as little as a name, skin colour, or the texture of her hair.

4. Rosie Revere, Engineer – Andrea Beaty
Rosie Revere, Engineer is about a young girl named Rosie who is inventing a gadget that will allow her great-great Aunt to fly. Her character in this bedtime story will make your little one realise the importance of imagination, inventiveness, courage, and especially the importance of making occasional mistakes.
5. A World Full Of Nature Stories; 50 Folk Tales And Legends – Angela McAllister
I love folk tales and legends as they not only give you an insight into different cultures but also push you into a magical world where the stories have lessons of kindness, honesty, and much more woven into them. And that’s exactly what this book filled with bedtime stories also does. This book will teach your young girl(s) so much but most importantly it will teach them to believe in miracles and the power of their own strength.
