Beauty Looks We Loved From FDCI’s Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week SS21. Spoiler, It Was All About Eye Makeup This Season

The beauty industry has seen an unexpected boom in the recent times with eye makeup totally stealing the show. One reason could be that since the face mask covers most of our face and we are siphoning all our energy into pulling off some serious eye makeup looks. We are officially cutting back on our lipsticks that have been our beauty fixture for the longest time and stocking up on mascaras, eyeshadow palettes and liner bottles. Not just our vanity kits and social media feeds, eye makeup dominated this season’s runway as well.

Runway trends often reflect and are inspired by what’s going on in the real world. Since eye makeup took an upturn during the lockdown and created a major fanbase, the trendsetters are also putting their stake on this category of beauty. Why am I saying this is because the latest catwalk of FDCI’s Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week SS21 was all about statement eye makeup, because obviously lipstick looks are basically obsolete at this point of time.

FDCI is holding its first-ever phygital edition of fashion week in New Delhi from 14-18 October which, as the name suggests is an amalgamation of physical and digital fashion show. It means, there would be audience-free runways but real-time physical space with catwalk installations, fashion props and lighting. The show will be livestreamed on social media and more than 40 designers would be putting up a fashion show for the upcoming season.

Two days into the fashion week, we can say that the beauty looks are nothing like we’ve seen before. They are refreshing, experimental and have a focus particularly on the eyes. Plus, they are easy and effortless to pull off and take to the streets (or Zoom, I should say). Here are some beauty looks from the FDCI’s LMIFWSS21 that we absolutely loved and can’t wait to try.

Peppy eyeshadow—Limerick

Limerick presented its collection Chrysalis which featured beautiful floral organza outfits that practically screamed summer. Their eye makeup was even summery and vibrant, though. We spotted bright hues like pink and purple painted on the inner and outer corners of the eyes with a flick of brush, leaving the centre lid bare. The look was completed with prominent blush on the cheeks and similar lively colour on the lips. Don’t miss the floral hairdo done in modern-day Greek style.

Smokey lid—Namrata Joshipura

A smokey eye is classic and never really goes out of style. However, at the Namrata Joshipura’s show, we noticed a minimal twist to the mod smokey eye makeup. The eyes were painted in charcoal black instead of deep hue of black and had a textured finish to it. Plus, unlike the traditional smokey eye, this look was far minimal with lower eyelids left nude and natural. Also, no mascara, just curled up lashes—fresh and stunning.

Red underliner—Payal Jain

The beauty look at the Payal Jain runway was as eccentric and quirky as her collection for the season. A stroke of red liner was drawn under one eye of the models which extended to the temples. This contemporary underliner look in fire red is the edgiest eye makeup look we have seen on the catwalk in a while. And, we are in love.

Inner corner glam—Dhi

Taking the concept of inner corner eye makeup up a notch, sustainable fashion label Dhi had its models wear a sweep of pop of green covering half the lower lid from inner corners to the middle and then softening off. If you are a makeup minimalist who wants to test the waters of bright colours, this artistic eye makeup could be your best bet as it is equally subtle and eye-catching. Need we say more?

Glossy lids—Rajesh Pratap Singh

We are a sucker for creative makeup looks and this one here from the Rajest Pratap Singh’s show just takes the prize for being the most imaginative beauty look on the ramp. The skin is fabulously draped in a golden glow with ample gloss all over, peach lips and oh, glossy lids in a gorgeous tangerine red. Okay, the melting golden face could be a but impractical to wear but those glossy lids are to swoon over.

Feather rimmed eyes—Ranna Gill

Remember the iconic feather eyes that Makeup Artist Pat McGrath created for Valentino last year? Taking inspiration from that look, Ranna Gill’s models sported feather adorned eye makeup and looked ethereal. It was a usual black smokey eye which was revamped with white feathers carefully placed to create an aesthetically neutral hued look. The models wore a face mask (because safety comes first) and let their eyes do all the talking.
