5 Times Mouni Roy Proved That Indian Wear Can Be Trendy And Traditional At The Same Time

Indian wear was the preferred choice of Bollywood celebrities some two decades ago. From film awards to glamourous events to even international red carpets (think Aishwarya Rai wearing that yellow saree for Devdas’s screening at Cannes), traditional wear was the most coveted sartorial pick for the actresses to sashay down the red carpet in. Then for a while there, Indian wear fell out of favour, glamorous gowns with thigh high slits taking over. However, today, the saree seems to have made a comeback of sorts with actresses  like Vidya Balan, Kriti Kulhari and Mouni Roy favouring these drapes. Of these stars, I find Mouni’s fashion statement quite alluring. You see, she often sports Indian wear with either a contemporary silhouette, or a trendy design or chic style element like OTT sleeves. I think it’s safe to say that no one does Indian wear quite like Mouni Roy.

The bong beauty has admitted to have a fondness for traditional apparel and has an obvious liking for sarees. She calls herself a “forever saree girl” whenever she poses in the six-yard fabric. However, they are not your usual sarees. She experiments with different drapes and styles and has debuted Indian wear trends like a ruffled saree, tie and dye printed saree and more. Apart from sarees she is also seen in stylish lehengas, Indian fusion wear and exquisite anarkalis with a modern-age appeal. We have curated the best Indian wear looks she has sported that were equal parts traditional and trendy. Take a look.

A sequinned saree has officially replaced the satin and silk drapes, in case you didn’t know. It’s the hottest saree trend right now and obviously, Mouni debuted the style. She wore this pastel grey Manish Malhotra number with a backless blouse which makes for a great pick for when you want a stunning saree that blends style and sanskaar.

Printed lehenga

For long, we associated lehengas with big fat occasions like weddings but that’s not the case anymore, mainly because the lightweight lehenga styles have taken over, tossing the heavily adorned one. Printed lehengas are the shiz right now and Mouni’s floral printed lehenga is just one of the unconventional style we are crushing over.

Textured saree

Talking about unconventional occasion wear, this textured saree with a geometric print blouse in halter neck style takes all the fashion points. Plus, we totally love the colour combination of a powder pink saree paired with a neutral toned top. The soothing colour scheme of this look, the trendy print and textured fabric makes this such a fresh style for millennial women.

Fusion wear

For days or occasions you are not sure whether you should wear a saree or a lehenga, you can steal this look from Mouni’s style files. Pick this two-toned ensemble which is a hybrid of a saree and a lehenga is so chic and refreshing. The dupatta belted to waist for form-fitting sillouhette gives it a modern touch, which we love.

Tie and dye pre-draped saree

Another one from Mouni’s extensive saree collection is this tie and dye print saree with a heavily embellished and embroidered blouse. This saree doesn’t have the pleats and has a very stylish blouse. Tie and dye is quite a rage right now but we never knew it could be incorporated in Indian wear until we saw this look.
