5 Real Brides Who Ditched The Traditional Lehengas And Went For Really Cool, Unusual Picks For Their Wedding Day

Brides bringing the baraat, ditching red lehengsa for an unconventional and eccentric colour for their wedding outfit and dancing to Cheap Thrills in shorts and choli while waiting for the groom (remember Amisha Bhardwaj’s viral YouTube video?) are just some of the many instances where real brides challenged the social and cultural norms on their wedding. Not only that, they are shattering some serious fashion stereotypes too.

Paring sneakers with bridal lehenga sand wearing denims for their prewedding bridal shoots is something that’s not new or remarkable anymore. However, there are brides who defied fashion orthodoxy with their unconventional style choices. Brides today are redefining the bridal traditions and making a strong case for having their wedding day their way with zero inhibitions and we totally love it.

Mehendi is an integral part of your wedding festivities and almost all brides get their hands and feet decorated in the rich brown henna before the big day. But this bride got a bit creative with mehendi and got herself a blouse made entirely of henna, intentionally or unintentionally starting a new bridal fashion trend. She sported her henna choli with a vibrant orange saree and black tube top over her bust. The intricate patterns and elaborate motifs covering her back, forearms and shoulders make the bridal look so pretty and elegant. “The beauty of henna is not restricted to only cultures, faith, or even hands, and feet. In the unconventional year, this bride chose to adorn herself with an intricate henna blouse,” the Instagram post reads.

The bride who paired saree with a veil

A veil with a gown and pallu with a saree is what the common fashion notion states is right but this bride married the two and wore a white organza veil with a beige Sabyasachi saree. Her veil was the sheer white with a long trail that swept behind her as she walked down the aisle. This rebellious fashion choice is a perfect amalgamation of tradition and modernity and looks effortlessly cool. Talking about the bride, she pulled it off with aplomb and looked absolutely gorgeous and ethereal.

We have come across a lot of brides who have experimented with the conventional colours of their bridal outfit but here was a bride who ditched the whole fuss of carrying a lehenga and instead opted for a pantsuit, in powder blue hue. She teamed it with a white sheer dupatta over her head, another quirky style combination, but managed to pull it off quite well. She wrote on her Instagram post, “I wanted to choose a wedding outfit that encapsulated my style but also stayed true to my commitment to supporting sustainability, local artisans and ethical shopping. I think I did great!” We agree.

The bride who wore white kaleere and chooda

A white bridal lehenga doesn’t surprise us anymore. Brides have been rocking all sorts of colours and patterns on their D-day and it’s refreshing to see women breaking out of the traditional bridal colour palette that restricts to red and maroon. However, what amazes us is when the bride not only goes with an eccentric colour for her wedding outfit but also matches her chooda and kaleeras with it. This bride wore a silver-white Manish Malhotra lehenga and snubbed the traditional red chooda and gold kaleera for silver sets of both to match her shimmery white outfit.

The bride who wore no makeup

Bridal makeup is one thing that brides spend days finalising. They zero down on the perfect look after flipping through various magazines and scrolling Instagram pages, book their makeup artists way in advance and go for a couple of makeup trial before the wedding. This bride was clearly in no mood to wear makeup just because society wanted her to and showed up on her wedding with almost bare face. She simply wore a stroke of eyeliner and some lip gloss that she asked her friend to help her with. “I have never worn makeup in my life and I wanted to ensure the same for my wedding because I didn’t want to look like someone else on the most important day of my life. My reasons are simple, I just don’t get the idea of layering your face with harmful chemicals,” she told Wedding Wire.
