We, women, love our lipsticks. I mean just one little beauty product can instantly brighten up our face and add colour to it. So, what’s not to love about this amazing beauty product? Plus it comes in a large variety of colours and shades. You can pick a bold red for days when you want to feel more confident and a coral tone when you want to feel cheery. A bold brown can make you look professional, elegant and glam. And that’s what we all love about lipsticks but sadly, when us brown girls want to play with lipsticks when we go for a minimal or no-makeup makeup look, the going gets tough. The reason? Lack of nude lipsticks.
Finding a nude lipstick that looks good on Indian skin is not easy, mainly due to our skin tone. And picking a lipstick is not just about picking a shade that looks good on your skin tone but also on your undertone and most Indian people have warm skin undertone. It’s no surprise that finding nude lipstick for the Indian skin tone is no cakewalk. I mean, we’ve all come across nude lipsticks that are either just too dark for your skin tone or it makes your skin look washed out and that’s not something we want. And that’s okay if the brand is an international brand that caters to white people. What actually pissed me off, as a true blue beauty girl, is the Indian brands that epically fail at making nude lipstick shades for Indian skin tones.

Over the years, I’ve come across several Indian beauty brands and some celeb-owned ones too and what’s shocking is that despite being a homegrown Indian brand that aims to cater to the Indian women of the Indian skin tone, they fail to make nude lipsticks that flatter the Indian skin. And the same goes for coral shades as well. In fact, many of these brands also go wrong with their shades of pink that are so bright that they make a fair Indian person look bad. I mean, I didn’t even think that was possible.

Considering that these brands are founded, created and run by Indian people, it’s only natural to expect these beauty brands to cater to our needs which also include nude lipsticks. But since they’re so busy aping the West, they fail to do the one job that they have – make lipsticks for Indian skin tones including nude lipsticks. Many will say “Oh but Indian women don’t prefer nude lipsticks”. Yes, of course, they don’t because they don’t have any options in nude lipsticks.
So, here’s a little message to the Indian beauty brand. Please, just give us, brown girls, nude lipstick to swear by for our skin!
