If there’s one product I never seem to hear enough about these days, it is Bioderma’s Sensibio Micellar Water. This super gentle water is a miracle product that expertly removes make-up and dirt from your face, leaving your skin looking and feeling squeaky clean in minutes. This and other micellar water products are all the rage right now and I’m shocked that I’ve been without it for as long as I have.
So What Exactly Is Micellar Water?
Micellar water has been around for a few decades, and was first introduced in France thanks to its notoriously harsh water. Since then it’s become a French pharmacy staple, and has only gained visibility in the rest of the world over the past two years. Made up of “micelles” — or tiny molecules of oil suspended in soft water — micellar water looks just like water and has the same viscosity but slightly different texture. The tiny micelles in the formula attract dirt and oil and draw out impurities from the skin without drying it out. Amazingly enough, micellar water acts as a cleanser, make-up remover, toner and moisturiser all rolled into one — basically every lazy girl’s dream come true!
Super simple to use, all you need to do is soak a cotton pad with the water and wipe your face gently to take off dirt, oil and make-up. It leaves your face super clean, so much so that you don’t need to wash or moisturise your face after. However, if you’re a beauty junkie, you probably don’t want to skip your extra hydrating night cream.
Is It Right For Me?
Girls who have dry and sensitive skin should totally use micellar water, since it is very gentle and does not strip your skin of moisture. Women with very oily skin might need to rinse their face after as it is fairly mild, but that’s not to say it won’t effectively clean your skin because it really does what it says. However, do keep in mind that it’ll probably not be as effective on waterproof make-up, so keep your eye make-up remover handy if you’ve done heavy eyes.
Micellar water is also the perfect travel companion, especially for outdoor trips and vacations where you don’t have the luxury to carry a lot of products or don’t have water at hand to wash with. It is also the best solution for girls who are too lazy to take off their make-up after a long day (or night!).
