If you’re a girl with oily, acne-prone skin, then you already know that summer makes everything 10x worse. The sweat, the pollution, the sticky humidity it’s a full-on breakout invitation. And if your skin feels greasy by noon or you’re constantly dabbing at your face with blotting paper, you’re not alone. But don’t worry, I’ve got you. Here’s the ideal AM and PM skincare routine to help keep your skin fresh, matte, and acne-free this summer.
What should be your AM routine?
Your morning routine should be all about cleansing the overnight oil, tightening those pores, and prepping your skin to stay matte through the day.
1) Salicylic Acid-Based Cleanser:
Start your day with a gentle foaming cleanser that contains salicylic acid. It helps unclog pores and keeps acne-causing bacteria away. Look for something that doesn’t strip your skin completely but still gives that squeaky clean feel.
2) Pore-Tightening Toner:
After cleansing, use a toner that has witch hazel or tea tree extract. These ingredients help reduce oiliness, tighten your pores, and calm down any inflammation. Just pat it in with your fingers or use a cotton pad your call.
3) Oil-Free Moisturizer
Yes, even oily skin needs moisturizer. Skipping it can actually make your skin produce more oil. Go for a lightweight, gel-based formula that hydrates without feeling sticky.
4) Matte Sunscreen
This step is non-negotiable. Look for a broad-spectrum SPF that says matte or oil-free right on the label. It’ll protect your skin from sun damage without making you look like a greaseball by lunch.

What Should Be The PM Routine Like?
Nighttime is when your skin heals, so it’s important to really cleanse and give it the right ingredients to fight breakouts while you sleep.
1) Oil-Based Cleanser
Start with an oil-based cleanser to melt off sunscreen, makeup, and pollution. Don’t worry, this won’t clog your pores. In fact, it helps dissolve the oil and gunk sitting on your face.
2) Salicylic Acid-Based Cleanser (again):
Follow up with your salicylic acid cleanser to double cleanse and really get into the pores. Your skin will feel extra fresh after this step.
3) Salicylic Acid Toner
At night, it’s okay to go a bit stronger. Use a toner with salicylic acid to gently exfoliate and prevent clogged pores. This helps with texture and reduces breakouts over time.
4) Salicylic Acid Serum
A serum with 1-2% salicylic acid will target existing acne and keep new ones from popping up. Just a thin layer is enough don’t overdo it.
5) Oil-Free Moisturizer
Lock everything in with your favorite oil-free moisturiser that provides hydration as well as moisturization without being too heavy on the skin.
