4 Easy Ways To Figure Out Your Skin’s Undertone

“What is YOUR skin’s undertone?” Until a few years ago, this question turned me into a bumbling mess. And I’m pretty sure scores of other girls feel the same even today. Undertones vary from person to person and depend on your skin tone, which is generally categorised as fair, medium or dusky.

Your undertone, on the other hand, is the colour beneath your skin and is categorised as WARM, COOL or NEUTRAL. It’s like your skin’s shadow, but with a colour of its own. Your skin tone can change over the years; it might tan, darken, lighten or get pigmented, but the undertone always remains the same. Confused about what your undertone is? Here are four easy ways to figure it out.

1. It’s In The Veins

The easiest way to understand your undertone is to look at your veins in natural light. Do they look green? If yes, then you have a warm undertone. If your veins look blue or even slightly purple, you have a cool undertone. If you can’t quite decide whether your veins are blue or green and seem to have a bit of both, then you’ve got a neutral undertone.

2. What’s Your Favourite Metal?

Next, take a few minutes to think about which metal looks best against your skin. You know those girls who practically look like they’re glowing when they’re wearing gold jewellery? That means they’ve got warm undertones. Girls with cool undertones gravitate towards silver as it looks most flattering on them. If you think both gold and silver jewellery looks good on you, you’ve probably got a neutral undertone.

3. Do You Look Good In White?

Still confused? Here’s another way to test things out. Colours are a great way to figure out your undertone. If you look washed out when you wear a pure white outfit, you have a cool undertone. Instead, off-white and jewel tones like sapphire blue, amethyst and emerald green look better on you. Those with warm undertones look great in pure white as well as earthy tones like red, orange, yellow, and olive green.

4. Can You Worship The Sun?

Finally, how your skin reacts to the sun is the clincher in establishing your undertone. If you tan easily but rarely suffer sunburns, you have a warm undertone. On the other hand, if you tend to get burn easier than you tan, you have cool undertones.
