What Is The Vampire Facial Everyone’s Obsessed With? Expert Dermatologist Explains
It's not actually a vampire look!

If you’ve been scrolling through your social media feeds lately, chances are you’ve come across some eerie yet intriguing images of celebrities like Kim Kardashian with their faces seemingly covered in blood. Fear not, it’s not a scene from a horror movie; it’s the famous Vampire Facial that’s taking the beauty world by storm. So, what exactly is this mysterious facial, to answer your questions we reached out to celebrity dermatologist Dr Batul Patel to share her expert input on the vampire facial.
What Is The Vampire Facial?
The Vampire Facial, also known as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, is a cutting-edge cosmetic procedure that has garnered immense popularity in recent years. The name Vampire Facial is inspired by the process, which involves using your own blood to rejuvenate your skin, making it appear younger, brighter, and more radiant.

How Does It Work?
The Vampire Facial is a two-step process that harnesses the power of your body’s natural healing properties.
Step 1: Blood Collection
At the beginning of the procedure, a small amount of your blood, similar to what is drawn during a routine blood test, is taken. The blood is collected in a specialized tube that prevents clotting.
Step 2: Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Extraction
Once the blood is collected, it undergoes a process called centrifugation. The blood is placed in a centrifuge machine, where it is spun at high speeds. This spinning separates the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the other components of the blood.
Step 3: Micro-Needling with PRP Application
After the PRP is extracted, it is carefully applied to your face. Before applying the PRP, a numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Then, a micro-needling device is used to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. The skin’s natural healing response is triggered by these micro-injuries.
The PRP is then spread across your face, allowing the growth factors in the plasma to penetrate the deeper layers of your skin through the micro-injuries. This stimulates collagen production and cell turnover, ultimately giving your skin a youthful and revitalized appearance.

Benefits Of The Vampire Facial
1. Improved Skin Texture: The Vampire Facial can help minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars, giving your skin a smoother texture.
2. Enhanced Skin Tone: It helps even out your skin tone, reducing hyperpigmentation and sunspots, leaving you with a more radiant complexion.
3. Increased Collagen Production: The treatment triggers the production of collagen, a protein that provides structure to the skin and keeps it plump and firm.
4. Natural Rejuvenation: The Vampire Facial uses your body’s own healing properties to promote natural and long-lasting results.
5. Minimal Downtime: Unlike more invasive procedures, the Vampire Facial requires minimal downtime, and you can usually resume your daily activities the same day.
6. Safe and Non-Toxic: Since the treatment uses your own blood, there are minimal risks of allergic reactions or side effects.
Dr Batul also advised that the patient should be aware that there is a minor risk associated with blood clotting issues. It is advised to have a discussion with their dermatologist to address any concerns related to this matter.
