7 Uses For The Toothbrush That Are Pure Genius!

By  |

There’s no denying that it’s hard to resist the lure of hoarding up on fancy gadgets. But very often, we have so many non-beauty tools that have the potential to be great aids in our skincare, haircare, and makeup routines — like the humble toothbrush. I swear I had no idea that the toothbrush could be used in so many ways besides keeping our pearlies in top form. Here’s how you can make the most of your dental brush:

1. Tame Flyaways

You know those frustrating baby hair along your hairline that forever come in your way of getting that sleek, polished hairstyle? Tackle them by spritzing a clean toothbrush with some hairspray and running it across the baby hair. Why this works is because its bristles are closely placed, just like a compact boar bristle brush.

2. Tease hair

Like I mentioned earlier, a toothbrush is much like a compact boar bristle brush. So it works really well when you want to create a little height and volume in your hair by teasing them. Tease the hair around your crown and hairline to get instant volume.

3. Add texture

Who doesn’t love a little texture in their hair? Give your braid or ponytail some subtle texture by lightly teasing it with a toothbrush in an upward movement. This instantly creates a lived-in texture. Messy braids FTW!

4. Tame Brows

Keep unruly eyebrow hair in check by running a toothbrush dipped in lip balm through them. Comb through your brows and set them in place.

5. Clean nails

For an impromptu manicure, dip your fingers in a bowl of warm water and soap for a few minutes. Use a toothbrush to scrub under your nails and on the nail bed to treat discolouration. The toothbrush works as well as a nail brush you get in a manicure kit.

5. Treat cuticles

The only way to get rid of cuticles is to treat them on a regular basis. Apply cuticle oil before you go to bed to moisturise and soften them. Once a week give them a thorough scrubbing with a toothbrush. Toothbrush bristles are firm enough to exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells, and soft enough to be used on the cuticles.

6. Exfoliate chapped lips

Dry, chapped lips can be very painful. Besides, trying to apply lipstick on flaky lips is disastrous. If your lips are flaking, wet a children’s toothbrush (since they have the softest bristles) and scrub your lips with it in a circular motion. If you have really dry lips, you might want to add an exfoliator and then brush your lips to slough off dead skin cells. Remember to moisturise your lips afterwards.

7. Clump-free peepers

Not everyone likes the way lashes harden after applying mascara. For natural, defined-looking lashes, dab some mascara on your toothbrush and gently coat your lashes with it. It will tint your lashes lightly without clumping them. You can also run a toothbrush through your lashes to de-clump them if you use too much product by mistake.
