Your Ultimate Step-By-Step Guide To Applying Makeup

Your Ultimate Step-By-Step Guide To Applying Makeup
While all of us are trying to master each and every step in our elaborate makeup routine, to get that flawless base, it is important to know your order right. If you look at your makeup puzzled unable to figure what amongst these long list of products goes on first, then here is a break down of the correct order of application of makeup.

Step 1: Cleanse

The best way to start anything is with a clean slate, and that applies for your face as well. Start by cleaning your face using a face wash or a cleanser so you can have a flawless, smooth or clean face that does not have any dirt or grime.

Step 2: Serum and spot treatment

There are some people who like doing a little extra for their skin, like using a serum or are using any treatment for skin troubles. This is where it comes in, so slather that serum on and give your clean skin the goodness it needs.

Step 3: Moisturise

Moisturising your skin sets the base for even application and makes sure your makeup doesn’t look flaky. This is basically to give your skin the correct texture for makeup application. Go with a lightweight moisturiser if you’ve oily to combination skin and if you have dry skin, pick a face oil.

Step 4: Sun Block

Everyone who has great skin always says they NEVER-EVER step out without sunscreen. Apply an even layer of sunscreen to protect your skin.

Step 5: Prime

Face primers are not generally categorized as makeup. Instead, they are thought of more as a makeup aid. They help your makeup last longer, look better and stay on sharper. The last thing you want is for your makeup to start shining in the 6th and 7th hour.

Step 6: Foundation

The next step is to give your skin a smooth base with a light foundation.

Step 7: Concealer

You will find a lot of discussions on whether or not to use concealer before or after foundation. The right way to do it is to apply it after foundation. Concealers are heavier, so if applied first they can get cakey. Instead, use it to just cover up what your foundation could not. Or use it to brighten your skin. If you are colour correcting then do it right about now. After your foundation and before your concealer is when you should do it.

Step 8: Eyebrows

As the foundation and concealer sit in, give your face a break and move onto to the eyes. If you are going for a heavy eye look, then start with eyes first and brows later, as the intensity of brows can then be decided accordingly. When doing eyebrows, the order to follow is Wax-Pencil-Powder.

Step 9: Eyes

Now go on and do your eye makeup. Complete the entire eye makeup but leave mascara for the end.
Pro Tip: People usually set this base with powder. But that is also one of the biggest mistakes they make. If you have cream or liquid blush, bronzer or highlighter, then use a setting powder after all cream and liquid based products have been used. Because if you apply cream or liquid based products over powder, your makeup will look flaky. So, remember cream first and then powder.

Step 10: Bronzer

Now it is time to add some colour to your face. First comes bronzer.

Step 11: Powder

Now set your base with loose powder so it does not move.

Step 12: Blush

Bring some colour and saturation back into your skin using a blush.

Step 13: Highlighter

Finish the base with highlighter on the high points of your face.

Step 14: Mascara

Now finish your eye makeup with mascara.

Step 15: Lip Liner

Moving onto lips, line your lips with lip liner. While lining your lips fill the lip in with the lip liner as well, so if your lipstick fades off you will still have some colour on you.

Step 16: Lipstick

Colour that pout with a lipstick!

Step 17: Lipgloss

Apply some gloss on your lips to make them look bigger!

Step 18:  Setting spray

Lock your master piece in place using a setting spray.
And that my friends, is the right order of makeup application.
