Spring’s Hottest Colour Trend: All Blue Everything!

The one colour trend that has dominated runways both in India as well as internationally for Spring/Summer 2016 — in makeup anyway — is blue. From eyes to lips and even hair, the blue makeup trend is everywhere! Blue has always been a summer mainstay, but this season it’s been revived in every hue possible. And why not? Blue looks lovely against every complexion. It looks especially beautiful with Indian skin tones. Remember the time Sonakshi Sinha wore gorgeous blue eyeshadow? Such shimmery goodness. We were sold on it the moment we laid eyes on the look.

However, I’ve noticed a general tendency among women to be wary of blue makeup. Let me assure you that your fears are unfounded and wearing it is not as scary as it seems. Take baby steps with the colour by replacing your regular black eyeliner with a navy blue one. Once you’re comfortable with the hue, switch to a more daring (and fun!) turquoise. Switch the usual placement by going for a heavy lower lid instead.

The basic idea is to have fun with makeup. I love the drama of an electric blue cat eye. It’s radical and impactful. Like literally knocking the wind out of someone. What you can also do is try accents of blue, like coloured mascara. Keep the rest of your make-up neutral or bare. It’s pretty low-key but such an interesting element since it makes your eyes pop like nothing else. You could also add a shot of shimmery or sparkly blue along the inner corners of your eyes and pair it with a blue kitten eyeliner.

And then there’s the classic smokey eye. Go for a bold one or keep it understated with a soft periwinkle shadow. Aah, the possibilities are endless!
