Sonam’s Makeup Artist Reveals The Secret to Her Cleopatra-esque Eyes

We’ve been following ace makeup artist Namrata Soni’s work for a long time now, and one thing we can say with certainty is that the already excellent artist has evolved to another level of amazing. While we spend a considerable amount of time drooling over her flawless makeup application (and wonder what products and techniques went into achieving those looks), we absolutely love it when she spills the beans herself. I mean isn’t it infinitely better when she dishes out the secrets of her art rather than playing the guessing game?

Recently, Sonam Kapoor walked the ramp for her close friend Pernia Qureshi looking beautiful in heavily-kohled eyes.

Soni calls this look a modern rendition of the Egyptian-style of eye makeup. Egyptian eye makeup is traditionally centred around intense, kohl-filled eyes. However, Soni wanted to keep the makeup modern so she decided to go for dark eyes that were super defined. Here’s how she achieved the look:

Lakme 9 To 5 Eye Quartet Eyeshadow – Desert Rose (Rs 420)

1. Use a gold eye shadow all over the eyes and blend really well so that there are no harsh lines.

Maybelline New York The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette (Rs 809)

2. To really bring out the eyes, contour the eyelids. Pick an eyeshadow in a soft brown colour and use it in the outer corners bringing it up halfway into the crease to form a “V”. This is where your eyes dip naturally, so follow the natural contours of your eyes.

Inglot Kohl Pencil (Rs 850)

3. Use a black kohl pencil to draw a thick winged liner. Draw the wing as far out as you like. The longer the wings, the more dramatic your look. Line your lower lashline and join it to the wing in a seamless, fluid line.

Sigma E30S – Pencil Brush (Rs 2,105)

4. Pick black eyeshadow with a soft pencil brush and blend it into the eyeliner. This adds depth and darkness to the liner.

5. Line both your upper and lower lashline with kohl. Go over a second time with your kohl pencil to intensify the look.

Inglot Eyelashes – 15S (Rs 750)

6. Curl your lashes and apply mascara. For extra drama, add a pair of false lashes.

L’Oréal Paris Infallible Silkissime Eye Liner – Gold (Rs 518)

7. Your eyes can look small and closed in with an all-around ring of kohl. Add a touch of gold to the inner most corner of your eyes. It instantly opens them up.
