Dermatologist Says Crying Is Actually Good For Your Skin. Let The Waterworks Begin!
Crying over your ex wasn't a total waste!

We often shed tears to express our emotional pain, and sometimes our anger and frustration too. But have you ever noticed that your skin suddenly feels supple and bright red after you cry? In fact, some people (like me) even find their skin looking clear after shedding some tears. That’s probably the only reason why we don’t mind our exes and all the other boys who made us cry because chalo, at least something good came out of shedding all those tears. But is crying really good for our skin? Well, we got celebrity dermatologist and founder of Ambrosia Aesthetics, Dr Niketa Sonavane to weigh in. And it looks like it might be time to cry a little out of joy because tears are good for the skin.
According to Celebrity Dermatologist emotional tears in particular have skincare benefits. Let’s find out what those are.
Moisturising Effect
Dr Nikita says that tears act as natural moisturisers for the skin because they contain water, oils and other substances that keep the skin hydrated and prevent dryness. So when we cry and our tears come in contact with our skin, they provide temporary relief from dryness and improve skin hydration.

Toodles Irritants
Not only do tears flush out the irritants that come in contact with our eyes but also the ones on our skin, says Dr Sonavane. She shared that crying is beneficial for people who have sensitive and allergy-prone skin as it removes potential triggers and reduces inflammation.
No Stress = Good Skin
According to the celebrity dermatologist, crying is good for our skin as it helped release pent up emotions and reduce stress levels and stress is known to have a negative impact on the skin. She says that chronic stress contributes to various skin conditions like acen, eczema and psoriasis and since crying reduces stress, it indirectly benefits the skin by promoting balanced and healthy environment.
Natural Cleansing
Did you know that tears contain an enzyme, lysozyme, which has antimicrobial properties and can help cleanse the skin by inhibiting the growth of certain bacteria? Well, yes! Our dermatologist says that crying can be useful to prevent or reduce bacterial infections on the skin.

Explaining further, Dr Niketa Sonavane said that while crying has skincare benefits, this doesn’t mean that we stop taking care of our skin. It’s essential to focus on a comprehensive skincare routine, a healthy lifestyle, and addressing any specific skin concerns with the guidance of a dermatologist for optimal skin health. In addition, the celebrity dermatologist revealed that crying also has downsides. Excessive crying can lead to skin redness, swelling and increased blood flow due to blood vessel dilation even though these effects are temporary, crying is not a substitute for your everyday skincare regime. And mind you, it does not have a significant impact on skin health in the long run.
But thoda bohot rona dhona is not so bad. Sorry, GTG, I need a good cry!
