I’m a through-and-through beach girl. There’s nothing I love more than sitting on a beach and hearing the waves hit the shore. Apart from the calming effect that provides, I absolutely love taking a dip in the water. But no matter how much of a water baby you are, spending all that time in the pool or at the beach is an absolute nightmare for your hair. I figured out how much of a nightmare it can be after I went for a beach vacay and spent nearly 10 days taking multiple dips in the beaches around Thailand. The result? A head full of frizzy, unmanageable hair. So, I decided to save all of you the trouble and share a complete guide on taking care of your hair when you head out for a beach vacation.
1. Hair Oil Is A Must
All that time in the water can make your hair feel rough and strip them of its natural oil which means that you need something to nourish and moisturise your hair. And there’s no better solution than hair oil. Pack a small bottle of oil and apply the oil overnight and wash it in the morning. You can also hit the beach with some oil in your hair.
2. Condition, Condition, Condition
Conditioning is the most essential haircare step when you go for a beach vacation. Remember to pack a conditioner and a leave-in conditioner to restore and lock the moisture in your hair when you’re struggling with frizziness. But most importantly, keep a hair serum handy!

3. Skip The Sulfates
Opt for a nourishing and clarifying shampoo for your hair but make sure to avoid picking anything with sulfates as they not only dry your hair but also your scalp which means you’ll end up having a tougher time managing your hair after spending all that time in the water.
4. Mask Away, Queen!
Hair mask is the best thing that can happen to your hair on a beach vacation. If not a DIY mask, you can always carry a small pack of a nourishing hair mask to lock the moisture in and keep your tresses hydrated. If nothing else, apply some oil and wrap your hair in a towel for an hour before washing it off to nourish your hair.
5. Steer Clear Of Styling
Using a hair styling tool is the worst thing you can do to your hair on a beach vacation. Water is already stripping your hair of its natural oils and using a styling tool can worsen the frizz and further dry your hair making it prone to immense and irreparable damage. So, it’s in your best interests to stay away from these tools.
6. Pack Some Heat Protectant
No matter how much I ask you to steer clear of hair-styling tools, not all of us can do that. In that case, a heat protectant spray is an absolute must. And guess what? You can also spray some of this spray on your hair to protect it from the sun and its heat.

– Apply a leave-in conditioner before and after taking a dip in the water.
– Rinse your hair before and after you hit the water.
– Protect your hair by using a scarf or simply tie your hair up in a bun.
