How To Make An Ayurvedic Beauty Routine Work For You

By  |

The word Ayurveda conjures up images of leaves, herbs and vibrantly coloured ingredients to be slathered on the face and skin. It’s all natural, it’s all skin-friendly, and basically, you really can’t go wrong with it. Or could you? Words like herbal, natural and Ayurvedic are thrown around quite casually nowadays, even if only a stray leaf has made it into the actual product. So while you are layering up tonnes of turmeric on your face hoping that you’ll have a glow that’s blinding, you could actually be working against your skin. There is such a thing as a wrong way to use Ayurvedic products! And you could be doing your skin more harm than good. Here are a few things you need to know in order to make your Aurvedic beauty routine work for you.

Pair It Right

This isn’t about wine and cheese. Though that would be appreciated right about now. But when it comes to Ayurveda, certain pairs just don’t work. For example, combining milk with fish in a meal, or having coffee and drinking lemon juice together simply don’t sit well, and might not be good for your body.

Know The Temperature

Ayurveda is based on the basic properties of the food itself. And most of it involves knowing how to use each ingredient right. Certain foods are probably better eaten raw, some cooked. For example, heating honey is a bad idea as it changes its properties. Put the flame away!

Dive Into The Details

Now, it may sound a little too scientific for common knowledge, but if you want to go beyond knocking back shots of wheatgrass, you’ll have to know a little bit about foods. Like if you’re on medication, it’s better to veer away from highly acidic foods like coffee or alcohol because they interfere with the absorption of the medicine. Which is never a good idea.

Time It Right

There’s a lot to be said about having a regular eating and sleeping pattern. Mainly that it is fantastic for your body. Messing with your sleep or skipping meals is no way to do it, especially when it comes to the Ayurvedic way of life. Get your zzzs, eat on time and you’ll feel better for it.

Hydrate Away

We could pull up a hundred other articles where we mention this but in this context also, it’s super important. Keep yourself hydrated. Drink water at regular intervals so your body isn’t feeling parched and deprived. Water is the elixir of life. Too deep? Okay, sip away, cool?
