How To Get Shiny Locks Whether Your Hair Is Curly, Straight Or Wavy!

With glass hair being the “it” hair trend of the season, now is the time to give your mane that much-needed lustre. Besides, shiny hair that glows to the gods as you step out in the sun is something every woman wants. Not only does it look healthier, it also makes you look polished and pretty. The good news is that no matter what your hair texture is, there is always a way to make it look shiny and lustrous. Other than the obvious remedies like oils and leave-in conditioners, here are a few things you can do to get silky, smooth hair.

Hair Wash

Before washing, make sure to detangle your hair. Once washed and conditioned, thoroughly rinse your hair with cold water. Cold water seals and smoothes the hair cuticles, locking in moisture and adding shine. If you want to comb your hair, post a wash, always use a wide tooth comb. It prevents breakage and helps reduce frizz.

Turn the heat up

This may damage your hair if done in excess, but it certainly works if you need instant results. Blow-drying or straightening your hair makes it look a lot shinier, as the heat smoothens the hair cuticle. If you choose to use heat often, make sure you protect your hair with a heat protecting spray.

Bamboo Brushes

Bamboo or wooden brushes distribute your hair’s natural oils from your scalp to your roots. These natural oils nourish the cuticles of your hair, allowing it to look healthier and shinier.

Keratin treatment

This is a form of protein produced naturally by the body and makes your hair super shiny and healthy. There are various forms of keratins available in the market now. You can either get the treatment done by a hair spa or salon, this is also known as a Brazilian blowout and makes your hair look like it’s styled and blow-dried for about 12 weeks. You also get vitamins, keratin-rich shampoos and more, all designed to boost shine!

Add Contrast

Hair that is both light and dark often looks shinier, as opposed to a flat field of one shade. If you have dark hair, then ask your colourist to add a few lighter hues, to achieve that contrast.

Oil-based ingredients

While a shine spray is great, in the long run, it dries your hair out. Instead, look for gloss-boosting ingredients such as argan oil in your hair products. Avoid water or water-based hair products, as they can cause your hair to frizz up and won’t hold straight hair well.

Hair spray before hairbrush

Spritz some hairspray into your hair and run a brush through it. This will control static and set your style.

Black tea

If you have darker hair, then the best way to bring back its shine and make it brighter is to rinse it with black tea. Simply wash your hair and then rinse with the tea. Let the tea sit in for 15 to 20 minutes, then add conditioner right on top of it for double hydration.

Mayo

Take that full-fat mayonnaise out of your salad and put it in your hair. Mayonnaise has amino acids, protein and antioxidants that will make your hair strong, soft, healthy and shiny.
