While there’s no denying that the world is in love with Adele’s incredible voice, I have to admit that I’m in as much awe of her flawless cat eyeliner. And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one because every beauty blogger worth her salt has a tutorial dedicated to Adele’s insanely perfect eyeliner.
But nothing beats getting this info straight from the horse’s mouth, which is what celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldridge recently did. Eldridge, whose YouTube tutorials rake in millions of views, invited Adele’s makeup artist Michael Ashton to give us the lowdown on how he creates her signature look.
Ashton has been working with the songstress for well over nine years now, and admits that she has fantastic bone structure and beautiful almond-shaped eyes, which is half the work done, really. But don’t lose heart, girls! You can definitely try his technique to give your basic cat-eye an Adele-esque twist.
Ashton reveals that Adele’s intense black eyeliner is, in fact, the result of product cocktailing. While he uses gel eyeliner to build the base, he always finishes with a thick liquid eyeliner that has an almost “tar-like” consistency. He also believes that to finish off any eye look, it is absolutely important to groom the brows. This does not mean they need to be filled in, but it’s important that they are in shape.
