Colour Correct Your Way To Flawless Skin

Colour Correct Your Way To Flawless Skin

Orange, green, and purple on your face… what? I know, you’ve seen colour correction all over the place. Every beauty guru knows how to ace it, but so many stark colors on your face can be a little confusing. As a makeup artist, I never leave for a job without my colour correctors, because I never know what kind of skin I’ll be tackling that day. It took me a while to understand it, but once I did… it was kind of like a revolution! Ready to say bye to pigmentation?

This video explains colour correction pretty well, but it’s important to figure out your own skin. For example, do you use orange or yellow under your eyes? Look back at the colour wheel and then look at your skin up close. If you have purple-y veins in your under eye area, then opt for yellow instead of orange. It’s all about figuring out what your skin needs. Here’s a video on do’s and don’t’s.

So, don’t conceal with correctors…just correct! Plus, you don’t have to use every single colour. Now I know, some of you are thinking about that crazy red colour. What is that for? The only time I’ve seen red work is for  extremely dark pigmentation — this is often caused by thin skin and lots of veins showing through. Since red is complementary to green, look for green undertones. This video will explain better why you should pick the intensity of your corrector according to your skin.

So, the concentration and richness of how dark or light your correctors should be is determined by how dark your skin is or how dark your pigmentation is. Corrector shouldn’t show through at all. For me, I’ve got slightly tanned skin and dark spots on my chin, so a darker peach just about does the trick. An orange, or worse, a red would be too much for my type of pigmentation and skin. Around my eyes, I use a yellow in the  inner corner due to the purple-tinge that I have there. I don’t need to use a peach, orange, or red kind of tone, because I don’t have any blue or green veins popping through. Neither do I have any heavy darkness.

2. Bobbi Brown

The Bobbi Brown correctors are mainly for the under-eyes. They also work for pigmentation with vein-y undertones. They don’t have a green or a purple, so there’s not much you can do for yellow bruising/sallow skin or for extreme redness. If you have slight redness, a yellow-based corrector should fare just fine.
