Breaking Out In Pimples? AVOID These 5 Food Items Immediately!

Is acne bothering you? It’s the worst thing, and I sympathise. We’ve often heard that acne can be caused by what goes into your body and not just what we apply on the skin’s surface. If you’ve read this post on multivitamins and supplements, then you know those things can play a big role on your hormones, and in turn, your skin. But there’s more to that, and unfortunately, it means putting the junk food aside and chomping down on healthy veggies. Should I explain it better? Here are 5 foods you might want to avoid if you don’t want anymore pimples or breakouts.

1. Chocolates & Sweets

Avoid having too much chocolate, Indian sweets, or candies. It’s not chocolate that directly causes acne. While cocoa itself may be fine for you, it’s the high amount of sugars and saturated fats in these foods that cause pimples. They can increase inflammation and sebum production in the body, leading to breakouts. If you must binge, do it once a week and try opting for artisanal or homemade stuff that will have lower amounts of saturated fats and sugars. This will help lower your insulin and keep your hormones under control.

2. Dairy

You heard right: dairy isn’t always good for you. While there are clear benefits like calcium and nutrients being replenished, dairy may also be causing your hormones to go haywire. The reason being, farms usually milk pregnant cows. This means a lot of their hormones (testosterone and progesterone) and their insulin is also excreted into the milk. In this day and age, most farms inject cows with hormones as well, which is even worse for us. The combination of this will most definitely cause breakouts, among several other problems. Try cutting out dairy and replacing it with almond milk or soy milk. If you can’t cut it out completely, try avoiding it for long periods of time to see the difference. If not, you can also order hormone-free milk online that comes from free-range farms.

3. Fried Foods

This one is a no-brainer! We’ve all heard that deep-fried foods lead to breakouts. This holds especially true for fried food from a fast food or mass manufactured source. Most likely, these aren’t made in health-friendly oils, plus greasy food that kills nutrients will end up clogging your pores if eaten in excess. If you’re craving something fried, opt for homemade options. Use oils that have a high smoke point and are charged with nutrients, like peanut oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, rice bran oil, and more. These oils have health benefits as well as the fact that they don’t burn too easily. Make sure you choose refined oils over unrefined oils for this purpose.

4. Chips & Other Junk

Instant noodles, fried chips, cookies… all of these packaged foods that are readily available at shops should be avoided at all costs. Once again, artisan or homemade options are better if you are craving junk food. Junk food has a lot of preservatives, unhealthy oils, and high amounts of salt and sugar, which can mess with your sebum production, weight, and hormones.

5. White Bread & Processed Grains

Try sourcing breads from freshly-baked sources or replace your daily loaf with gluten-free bread, now readily available in the market. Switch from cereals to unrefined muesli and oats. Once again, no matter what the packaging says, these foods are highly processed and unhealthy, plus they have super high glycemic indexes. Try replacing your daily intake of flour with amaranth, buckwheat, quinoa, and other grains that don’t contain wheat. If you don’t feel the need to go gluten-free, then opt for fresh, multi-grain options on everything from pizza bases to sandwiches. Even homemade cakes and desserts can now be made with white flour substitutes.
