Let’s get one thing straight: My crazy mind thought I had my life figured out. I was doing my skincare, brushing my hair, eating my greens, and applying my lip balm 100 times a day like usual business. Life was simple until I met my beauty guru friend who looked at me, with pity in her eyes, and said, “You know you’re doing, like, half of that wrong, right?” What followed was an emotional rollercoaster of heartbreak, shame, enlightenment, and denial. If you, too, fall into my category, here are 7 low-key chaotic things you might be doing wrong in your life!
1. Sticking To Skincare Ingredients
When my beauty-obsessed friend saw me change my moisturiser 10 times after watching Instagram reels, she knew I was on the wrong path. That glass-skin snail musin will do you no good if you’re not sticking to a well-researched, consistent routine with the same ingredients. Our skin likes stability, unlike us. So, switching products constantly wrecks your skin barrier and confuses your pH.
2. I Was Applying My Lip Balm Wrong!
Yes, I was using my lip balm wrong for 22 years of my life. Apparently, one needs to wet their lips (just a little). If you do so first, it helps seal the moisture better, which will help your lip balm last longer. Lip balm is not hydration, but a hydration lock-in, and no moisture, nothing to lock in. No one told me this. I am suing.
3. Using Roll-Ons At Night Instead Of Day
I thought I was smart to use my roll-on just before leaving my house until this fact slapped me on my face. Applying it in the morning means just slapping it on top of your sweat. But if you apply it during the night, it doesn’t get run down by sweat and gives better product absorption. So, while our body is resting, it gives your roll-on a longer period to work on your underarms.
4. Yoni Steams Are Real, And Also Highly Underrated
Yes, your vagina can get a steam treatment too. A yoni steam aka vagina steam uses herbs like rosemary and lavender maintains hormonal balance. Women do this especially after childbirth to spiritually cleanse themselves. Kourtney Kardashian did it too!

5. Not Pulling Your Hair Enough (Or Getting It Pulled Enough, LOL)
No, I am not talking about yanking your hair out in frustration at your office desk. But did you know that gently massaging or tugging your scalp stimulates blood flow that eventually promotes hair growth? Do this every day to see results, just like I did!
6. Those Super Hot Showers Are Dangerous!
I know, we all love taking steamy showers after a long day, but don’t. They strip you of your natural skin oils, wrecking your barrier, making you look roasted. Try keeping it warm instead of scorching. Alternate it with cold showers to tighten pores.
7. Your Scalp Needs SPF, Too!
We protect our face, our neck, our hands — but our scalp? It’s literally the skin closest to the sun. If you part your hair or have thinning spots, you’re at risk for burns and even skin cancer. This is advisable for people who spend a lot of time in the sun.
