Editor’s Pick: Zahra’s Smokey Eye Shadow For Lazy Girls

Editor’s Pick: Zahra’s Smokey Eye Shadow For Lazy Girls

Talk to me about doing smokey lids and I’ll roll my eyes in exasperation, before admitting that I just don’t know how to do them right. Beauty vloggers on YouTube make it look so damn easy, but all my “experiments” have resulted in are ugly Panda eyes. That is, until I tried out Estée Lauder’s Magic Smoky Power Shadow Stick in Slow Burn – a lovely, bronzy shade that looks so great on my pale skin, I was instantly sold. Another reason why I immediately gravitated towards this colour is because I find smokey black/grey eyes slightly harsh and dated; Slow Burn helps create a brown-toned version that looks way more modern and sultry.

An eye shadow in pencil form, this soft, crayon-like product is so easy to use, it makes a novice like me look like I’ve gotten my eyes professionally done. The shadow glides on super smooth and is very blendable, making it perfect to create an effortless look. If you’re like me and can’t do smokey eyes well or are just too damn lazy to go the whole hog, this is smokey eyes made ridiculously simple!

Start with a lighter colour first (I used Scorched Gold from the same line) to colour in the crease, then blend it with your fingers. The product feels just like powder when it’s on your skin, which makes it super easy to blend. Also, I’m not a big fan of brushes and prefer to do make-up with my fingers; I find that it looks more natural and effortless this way.

Now use Slow Burn and make a line about half-way along your lash line, followed by a V-shape at the outer corner of your eyes. Then blend inwards and up into the lid for instant contouring. Also create a line along the bottom lash line till you’re halfway in and blend it to diffuse the colour. Then create extra definition with some eyeliner on the top and bottom lash line and smudge it lightly. Add some mascara and that’s it! Simple, smouldering smokey eyes that you can literally do in minutes — no fancy brushes required! #Win
