Unless you live under a rock, you must have heard the word ‘core’. Many types or ‘cores’ exist, from cottagecore to Y2Kcore. The suffix is used to describe an aesthetic or lifestyle trend. It’s a way to identify and categorise different styles based on their defining characteristics. Anything that exists in the world might just be a ‘core’ for someone, even mental health.
What Is The Depression Hairstyle
Prada recently debuted their Fall-Winter 2025-2026 collection, and something other than the clothes is catching people’s attention. All the models wore messy, undone, and bedhead hairstyles, which are making waves on social media and also drawing some criticism from some.
Vogue Arabia described the fashion house’s winter collection as the dressed-down look for the aesthetic of the show. The Prada collection, which is called ‘The Raw Glamour’, showcased models having dishevelled hairstyles while walking the runway.
The designer of the winter and fall collection explained the vision behind the concept as free from their primary function, and fragments of garments move freely on the body. The collection was Italian designer, Miuccia Prada and Belgian designer, Raf Simons. They said that it was meant to invoke discussion and pose questions.
Why Is It Controversial
But the reason why the Prada fashion show is also sparking backlash is that many feel that it is glamorising depression. Messy and unkept hair, especially the kind that models wear in the show, is often associated with depression and other mental health struggles. Sometimes if a person is struggling with depression, everyday tasks like brushing their teeth or taking care of their hair become very difficult. Commodifying this struggle and turning it into a hairstyle offended many.
However, some people may also argue that the depression core hairstyle and the thought behind the ‘Raw Glamour’ trend give visibility to people struggling with fashion and put out the statement that fashion is not always fashionable.
