Bushra Has Finally Found Her Dream Brown Lipstick!

Just the thought of applying make-up in summer makes me sweat; attempting this feat in Mumbai’s sweltering heat is a nightmare. Perhaps this is why I stayed away from lipsticks for the longest time. Balmy weather coupled with super oily skin equals to runny makeup disasters, right? Obviously, you’ll attest to my boundless joy on discovering the world of matte liquid lipsticks. I don’t think I’ve applied a lipstick with a creamy formula in the last five years or so.

The new liquid lipsticks that have been trending since in the past year are a blessing for oily-skinned girls like me. These formulas DO NOT BUDGE, and by that I mean they will survive even an apocalypse. I have already hoarded an assortment of shades, but I’d been looking for a brown hue that wasn’t nude and neither too dark; something that looks natural on the lips because brown is a tricky shade to pull off. You can either look washed out like you’ve been in the Twilight series or grungy in a 90s way (not a look you want to go for). So I was idly walking through the mall whiling away my time between shows at Lakme Fashion Week when I happened to stop by the Colorbar counter to swatch coloured mascaras when I chanced upon their range of liquid lipsticks.

While on a swatch frenzy, I stumbled upon this lovely coffee-coloured stain called Haute Latte that even the high priestess of brown lipstick — Kylie Jenner — would approve of. The creamy brown colour has hints of pink (yellows wash me out) and is insanely pigmented. Just one swipe is enough to cover even the most pigmented lips. The applicator is shaped like a tiny heart and I think this works better than the regular doe-foot applicators because the pointed tip allows for precise application around the cupid’s bow. It makes the use of lipliners redundant, which works for me because I like cutting out steps from my make-up routine.

The formula is easy on the lips and doesn’t feel drying, even after four hours of wear. It can easily survive meals (unless you eat something really greasy) and can last for six hours without a touchup. Now that’s just the kind of Haute Latte that the #HauteSquad approves of!
