Everyone’s after that radiant, dewy look, and Janhvi Kapoor has practically perfected it. Her glowing, fresh-faced style is all thanks to a strategic mix of skin prep and makeup techniques. To decode her look, Hauterrfly spoke with her makeup artist, Tanvi Chemburkar, who shared what to avoid and what to embrace for a flawless dewy finish. Here’s how to master that signature glow, broken down by an expert.

1) Avoid Water-Based or Gel Moisturizers

According to Tanvi, the dewy effect starts with proper skin prep. “A hydrating cream-based moisturizer is key,” she says, noting that water-based or gel moisturizers tend to evaporate quickly, especially in humid conditions. A rich, cream-based moisturizer provides longer-lasting hydration, which is essential for a glowy base. By avoiding lightweight gels, you’re helping your skin retain moisture throughout the day, giving it that natural, lit-from-within glow.

2) Skip All-Over Highlighter Focus on Key Points Instead

Applying a highlighter all over the face can make it look shiny rather than dewy. Instead, Chemburkar recommends using a strobe cream or a highlighter only on the high points of the face—think cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and just above the brow. Products like MAC’s Strobe Cream or Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter provide a subtle sheen without going overboard. By strategically placing highlighter, you’ll enhance your features while keeping the overall look natural.

3) Opt for Hydrating Foundation and Concealer

To maintain a dewy look, avoid matte foundations and dry formulas. Chemburkar stresses the importance of using a foundation and concealer that adds hydration. Matte products can leave skin looking flat, which counters the dewy look you’re after. Using hydrating base products ensures that your makeup sits comfortably and radiantly on the skin, allowing your natural texture to show through without looking greasy.

4) Choose Cream and Liquid Blushes and Highlighters

To create a dewy finish, swap powder blushes and highlighters for cream or liquid options. Layering cream blush and highlighter over your foundation creates a skin-like texture, giving a healthy, natural glow. Chemburkar suggests building up products slowly, as creams and liquids are easier to blend and work into the skin for a seamless effect.

5) Use Powder Sparingly

Instead of powdering the entire face, Chemburkar suggests only setting areas that tend to get oily, like the T-zone, under the eyes, and around the mouth. This technique prevents excess shine where you don’t want it while letting other areas glow naturally. By keeping powder use minimal, your skin retains a fresh, dewy quality.

Finally, for the perfect dewy touch, spritz a hydrating mist over your finished look. Unlike traditional setting sprays, hydrating mists add moisture back into the skin, keeping it fresh all day.
