There’s something you might not think about when it comes to your skincare routine: your eyebrows. Those perfectly shaped arches can sometimes be victims of hair fall and the culprit might be sitting right there on your bathroom shelf. We all love our serums, creams, and cleansers, but did you know some of these products can mess with your brows? Eyebrow hair is delicate, just like the hair on your scalp, and it’s not immune to damage. Harsh skincare ingredients can irritate the skin underneath your brows, weaken the hair follicles, and cause those precious hairs to fall out.

Here’s how it happens:

Some skincare products are loaded with active ingredients like retinoids, AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids). While they’re great for fighting acne or brightening your skin, they can also be too strong for the sensitive skin around your brows. Over time, these ingredients can dry out the area or irritate the hair follicles, causing hair fall.

Exfoliating your face is great for glowing skin, but if you’re scrubbing or using chemical exfoliants too close to your brows, it can weaken the hair follicles. This makes the hair more likely to fall out or grow back thinner. When you’re applying your skincare products, some of it inevitably ends up on your brows. If those products aren’t rinsed off properly, they can build up and block the hair follicles, which can also lead to hair loss.

Sometimes, your skin might react badly to a certain ingredient in your skincare products. If this happens near your eyebrows, the irritation can cause inflammation and, eventually, hair fall. So, what can you do to protect your brows while keeping up with your skincare routine?
Be Gentle Around Your Brows: When applying products, avoid rubbing or pulling on your eyebrow area.

Apply Strategically: Keep active ingredients like retinoids or acids away from your brows. Use a clean spoolie to brush through your brows after applying skincare to remove any residue.

Moisturize Your Brows: Just like the rest of your skin, your brows need hydration too. Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic oil like castor oil to keep them nourished.

Check Your Products: If you notice thinning brows, take a look at your skincare products and see if any ingredients might be irritating the area.

Your eyebrows frame your face, so it’s worth taking a little extra care to protect them. With the right routine, you can keep your skin glowing and your brows full!
