Swatched, Tested And Loved: We’re Currently Crushing On This Cult Foundation!
Ask any makeup-wearing muggle out there what they most covet in a foundation and I can almost guarantee they’ll tell you something along the lines of this: solid coverage, longevity, and a natural-looking finish. I include the latter simply because (and feel free to @ me) but I think it’s safe to say when most people wear base makeup on the daily, they want their skin to still look like their skin — just, you know, better.
Bobbi Brown has been nailing the aforementioned trifecta since the inception of its Skin Foundation Stick, and with all of its successors, so when we were told the brand would be releasing a totally new complexion perfector in 2018, we knew we were in for something good. Great, even. Lo and behold, just as we predicted, the newly released product did not disappoint. In fact, the foundation actually exceeded our expectations.
Introducing the Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF 15, which the legacy brand is dubbing “the foundation you can smile in” due in part to its smooth, ultra comfortable look and feel — meant to leave the wearer feeling confident AF and wanting to smile their face off. If you think about it, how many foundations can you actually say that about? Because I, for one, have tried what feels like hundreds in my time as a beauty buff, and have very rarely found myself loving one enough to grin because of the way it made me feel.
Lauded by Nevin as the brand’s highest-performing foundation, as well as its mattest finish to date, there’s little doubt that this new Bobbi Brown base will become a fan favorite — especially for those who struggle with severe shine and grease throughout the day. Manufactured to stand up to sweat and humidity, control oil, and last the entire day, all while remaining featherlight and natural-feeling on the skin, the brand calls it a “multidimensional matte,” meaning you can see light reflection on the skin and it looks undetectable, but you also get that shine-free, fresh, clean feeling all day.
The texture of the foundation is quite creamy, and I was surprised by that. With the word “weightless,” I kind of expected the texture to be more watery. However, despite being creamy, it did not seem to feel heavy or cakey on the skin. It sat well and looked like skin instead of looking like a layer of foundation. Like most foundations, it did not seem to dry down completely. However, in no way does that mean that the foundation slips around on the face. It adheres well to the skin. For my oily skin, I definitely need to set it with powder. Maybe someone with dry skin may not need to do that. It should work across skin tones since it isn’t overly mattifying, nor is it overly glowing. It really does give the appearance of good skin. It does not accentuate dry patches nor does it start breaking down on my oily T-zone. Also, it does not settle into the fine lines on my face, which is key for someone who has more mature skin. It also doesn’t oxidise which is a plus for me.
Needless to say, if you’ve been on the hunt for a new foundation that checks all the boxes, then this is definitely one you should consider adding to cart. Even if you’re a dry-skinned broad like me, you can still wear it with the right moisturiser, as it was designed to hydrate the skin while covering and controlling grease all at the same time. Sounds too good to be true? Go pick up a bottle to see the magic for yourself.
UPDATE: The brand has introduced 12 new shades that were created especially to fit diverse Indian undertones and we are here for it!
Here’s what our social media editor had to say about it, “I usually struggle with finding a foundation that matches my neutral undertone. Most of the varieties commercially available either make me look too ashy or oompa-loompa esque. This foundation is the closest I’ve come to a true match. I wore the foundation all day long and it beautifully stood up to the Mumbai humidity, it didn’t budge or break up in my oily T-Zone. #WIN!”
