I’ve always been a conscientious beauty junkie. And I take pride in stating that no matter how hammered or tired I might be, there’s no way in hell I won’t remove my makeup and moisturise before I hit the sack. That’s how I dedicated I am. So you bet I take my beauty products seriously. Especially my daily skincare routine.

I’ve been religiously using the La Roche-Posay Protective Cream mixed with a dab of Neutrogena SPF 50+ for my morning moisturising routine. But it’s always nice to give your skin (like with everything else) a break from the routine, right? So when the Avène Creme Day Protector with SPF 30 PA+++ landed on our beauty desk, I had to give it a try.

I have combination skin, inclined towards dry. So I prefer using a moisturiser that’s heavy enough to guard my skin against feeling dehydrated and parched by the end of the day. But the fact that the Avène Creme came with SPF and is alcohol-free was a hook for me, since I wanted to give using a separate sunscreen a break. My only point of concern was that the product description read for ‘Sensitive skin’, which definitely meant that it’d be lightweight (especially since it’s a day protector) and I wasn’t sure it’d hydrate my skin enough. But I had to try it out to find out. So I did.

First, all the pros. The best thing about this protective cream is that you can totally negate the use of a sunscreen separately, especially if you work mostly indoors and aren’t exposed to direct sunlight continuously. Considering this product has a UV filter system, it protects your skin, while moisturising. And the best part, forget those ugly white patches that you might be subjected to with a sunscreen, especially if you’re sweaty.

The Avène protector is a great base for makeup as well, considering it’s lightweight and the skin absorbs it quite quickly (at least mine did). So you don’t need to keep dabbing yourself to get rid of oily T-zones and unwanted shine.

After a couple of days, I realised that I needed to increase the quantity I was using since I have dry skin, and often I’d feel my skin parched by evening. But once I increased the amount I was using, I was set. Which brings me to the con of the product.

If you have oily or sensitive skin, this is definitely a great product to pick up for daily use. It won’t make your skin unnecessarily oily, and it will protect you from UV rays, which I think is great. However, if your skin veers towards normal to dry, you probably need something slightly heavier than the Eau Thermale Avène Day Protector Creme. But if you do end up buying it, make sure to use a substantial amount to be able to moisturise your skin well, especially if you’re using makeup.

As for me, I’m totally buying this product for my mom, who happens to have oily skin and hates using sunscreen.
