Ew, NO WAY! 5 Worst Beauty Trends Of 2021 That We’re Leaving Behind Once 2022 Arrives

Pandemic or not, our beauty looks are important to us. Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve managed to update our beauty trends with eye makeup and bold lips. With all these new trends coming in every season and year, we can, sometimes, make the mistake of crossing that line of experimentation. It’s not uncommon to go overboard in terms of beauty and makeup. We’re almost at the end of 2021 and this year we’ve seen numerous retro beauty and makeup looks coming back in fad along with some new ones, including a few that made our skin crawl! TBH, I totally love the soft glam look that’s trending, but at the same time, there are trends that made me cringe. After all, not every beauty trend is good.

Over the years, we’ve seen some trends that made us question the sanity of people and we saw some like that this year too. As 2021 comes to an end, let’s look back at some of the worst beauty/makeup trends of the year that definitely need to die before 2022 begins.

Here are the worst makeup and beauty trends of 2021:

1. Glossy Eyeshadow

Lip gloss is back and that’s pretty awesome. As much as we love lip gloss, glossy eyeshadow is just plain weird. Like nope, that’s just not gonna happen. Not only does this beauty trend look weird, but it also feels weird…and sticky.

2. Excessive foundation

While this trend began on Tiktok, it soon found its way to Instagram and YouTube. There were several videos of people applying too much foundation (in some cases, nearly half the bottle) on their faces. Now, while it makes look nice for a bit…that’s just too cakey for your skin. Apart from looking weird, this also clogs your pores and damages your skin.

3. Sunscreen Contouring

Several people across the world tried to get a ‘natural’ contour by applying sunscreen only on the part of their faces where they don’t want contouring and then step out in the sun to get a tan. Sure, you can get a semi-permanent contour without using any products but this beauty trend will do nothing more than damage your skin to no end.

4. Multi-coloured Eyeshadow

Glitter, shimmer and halo eyeshadow looks are back in trend and we are loving it but this whole multi-coloured eyeshadow is a tad bit too much makeup even for someone who loves experimenting.

5. Face Gems

Stick-on face jewels or gem are very in RN and as cute as they look, it’s just not working out. It may look great on Instagram but this retro trend comeback just isn’t working IRL. Moreover, let’s face it, the adhesive does too much damage to your skin.
